MorningStar United Methodist Church,
36 Second Street, Ilion, NY 13357

Hosted by njbaker (Nancy) and tillyhead (Michelle)

Join us for an entire day of stamping fun!
I hope you’re planning to join us at our next Central New York Stampin' Get Together. Here’s the info:

Cost – $25.00 per person. Your registration must be paid no later than 5 pm on Wednesday, February, 8th.
Mail your registration form and payment to Nancy Baker (address is on the form). There are no refunds, but you may offer your spot to someone else.

Here’s what’s planned.

PLEASE MAKE UP 30 KITS!!! (plus ooopsies!!) PLUS 3 COMPLETED! ONE for a sample at your table location, ONE for each of the Hostesses.

Mandatory Swap(s) (just ONE of these is mandatory) –Participating in at least one of these seven swaps is part of the “price” of admission so everyone must participate in a swap (plus the shoebox table project is also required). You can, however, participate in any one, some or all of these swaps.

• Card Front Swap - Final Count 19 - Meg will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post # 8.

• Recipe Swap – Final Count 15 - Andrea will provide more information about 6x6 recipes. Info is in Post # 13.

• ATC Swap – Final Count 17 - Karen will tell you more about Artist Trading Cards. Check Post # 11.

• Twisted/Humor Cardfront Swap – Final Count 12 - Check with Michelle on this. See Post # 10.

• 3D Swap – Final Count 9 - Gayla will tell you about this one in Post #2

• 6x6 Technique Card Swap – Final Count 10 - Robin is going to tell you about this in Post # 15.

• NEW!! Rolodex Card Swap - Final Count 10 - Arlene will give you some guidance on this swap. See Post # 12.

************************************
PLEASE MAKE UP 30 KITS!!! PLUS 3 COMPLETED!
************************************

Mandatory Shoebox (Table) Project – Bring your idea and all the supplies (precut but not prestamped or prepunched) needed for EVERYONE to make your project the day of the event. Quality products are mandatory. There are several threads that discuss quality of swaps. Please read them if you are unsure. ALL the shoebox projects will be set out in the morning. You will proceed "round robin" to each of them and do ALL PROJECTS. YOU will move, YOUR PROJECT will not. GOOD DIRECTIONS WILL NEED TO BE POSTED ON YOUR SHOEBOX, you will not demo or be around for everyone to ask questions. When our final count is in, you will know how many kits to make. You will need to bring THREE extra completed shoebox projects (which includes hostess thank yous and one for your table so that everyone can follow it for directions). Participation in the table shoebox project is mandatory. This project will generally be a full card, with layers and embellishment(s) or a simple 3D item. Please provide any special adhesive that's needed. Make these something you’d be thrilled to get yourself. When you KNOW what your card or project is, please post a name for it here or send me a PM. We will all have a check off list the day of the event.
You WILL need 3 completed. One for a sample at the table and one for each of the hostesses. Michelle and I will be trying to complete all of the projects on the day of the event, but because of the hectic day may not be able to complete them all. So we ask for one from everyone. HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND ...

Because we will need time to do EVERYONE'S shoebox, we WILL NEED TO LIMIT the number of attendees. It will be 30.

Food – Please indicate on the registration sheet the food item you will bring to share. Please be specific; don’t just say “food”! Ideas: breakfast items, lunch items, including salads, desserts, snacks, canned soda ON ICE and water ON ICE. We love to try your food specialties! We will not have coffee, please plan ahead and bring it along.

“Garage Sale” – Bring your stamps and stamping supplies to sell or trade. Current Stampin’ Up! items must be offered for trade only; you can sell retired items. Sorry but we can’t be responsible for missing items so bring things at your own risk.

Goodie Bags – for everyone! Everyone will leave with a bag of fabulous goodies. The goodie bags will all have the same value with some variations in colors, etc. If you would like to donate to the goodie bags, please let me know. We'd be happy to include a coupon or flyer for everyone.

Door Prizes– We're going to skip door prizes this time. This will give us more time to stamp and "relieve" donors. If you were planning a door prize, please consider donating it to the next gathering. Thank you!!

Gift Swap – You don’t have to sign up for this one, but if you would like to participate, bring a wrapped gift related to our stamping passion. We will draw for those so that everyone who brings one will also leave with one. Value on these should be in the $5-10 range, and stamped projects are always appreciated! If it’s something you’d like to take home, it’s probably perfect! Be sure to include your name somewhere inside so the lucky winner knows who to thank. REMEMBER: Stamping-related!!!

Other Stuff – Please bring your own labeled items for your personal stamping needs, including your favorite adhesive. These are the items you just can’t stamp without, like: bone folder, paper cutter/scorer, scissors, straight edge, stamp cleaner and whatever else you can't stamp without! Did I say adhesive????? Adhesive! You will likely need lots of it.

Make and wear a nametag with your name and your SCS name so that we know you on sight.

Don't forget your camera!

Complete the registration form and forward with your $25 payment by 5 pm on Wednesday, February 8th. All funds collected will be spent on the event. Your registration is complete when your payment is received. If you have any questions, please ask! Looking forward to seeing you VERY SOON.

From the NYS Thruway, exit 30, Herkimer
Follow route 28 south to route 5S west. (just over the bridge, take a right)
Go approx. 1.7 miles on 5S, and take the exit for route 51, Ilion.
At the end of the ramp go left, this is Central Ave.
Go .8 miles and take a right onto Second Street.
Take your first right onto Morgan Street.
And a QUICK left into the parking lot.
The entrance to go in is off of this parking lot.

NOTE... There is currently (and has been for months) a gas war going on in town. There's a Fastrac just as you take the left off the ramp onto Central Ave. It's currently selling gas for $3.32/gal. ($3.25 if you have their gas card). We are LOVING it. It's the cheapest around.

Swap Etiquette -- Since we will all be swapping at least one item, YES one is mandatory. Here are some good general guidelines on SCS. I hope everyone will take these guidelines seriously so that we all make and receive wonderful swaps!

These are also good guidelines to keep in mind for your shoebox project, except that you're providing materials to make a full card rather than just a front and you won't need a "recipe".

1) Quality work -- This isn't about the quantity of layers or embellishments (please do use at least one embellishment and two layers), or whether you are new at this or not. "Quality" means straight cuts with no crooked, fuzzy edges, tears, wrinkles, etc. (unless that is part of the design), attaching your layers straight (again, unless part of your design), stamping images clearly with fully inked stamps, etc. If you make a noticeable mistake while stamping your swaps, turn the cardstock over, or cover with another layer. Last of all, quality means to use cardstock that is a nice weight not some flimsy stuff that has the feel of construction paper.

2) "Recipes" -- appreciated but not required. This means: your SCS name; your IRL name; listing the colors, stamp sets and embellishment you used; any techniques or tips you want to include. If you choose not to include a recipe, please include at least your name so we know who made your fab creation. Avery labels work great, but a plain piece of paper or your personalized stamp work just as well.

3) For all swaps you can use any brand of stamps, cardstock, inks, etc. BUT, this is not the time to unload your cheap cardstock!

4) Would you like to receive your swap or make your shoebox project? Then it's PERFECT!

5) Swap sizes: card front should be smaller than 4.25 x 5.5, please. This is so that it can easily be mounted to a full card later on. Recipes and techniques are still 6x6. Twisted are USUALLY full cards

Please ask any questions you might have and someone will be sure to answer. We have all made a lot of great friends getting together at these gatherings so we hope you’ll join us at this one!

Resummarizing: Layers - at least two! Dig into those embellishments, give your fellow swappers a real treat! Put those punches to work! Have fun, try something different! Show some pride and put your name on the back!!

(Borrowed, with minor changes, from Linda Tarolli. Thanks Linda!)

NOTES ON THE EVENT VENUE...

There are ovens there... The kitchen area is very nice. We'll be able to put out all of our goodies on a big counter at the entrance to the kitchen. It's about 10 steps from our stamping room.
I am a little concerned about the temperature of the room. As I recall, it's sometimes cool in there. So, bring a sweater just in case.
There's a small parking lot (about 12 cars??) when you arrive at the spot my directions take you. BUT .. if the parking lot is full, proceed through the parking lot to the exit (near the building). It will bring you right out to another parking lot across the street. You probably can unload prior to parking across the street.

I really want to do this but I'm super nervous since I'll be solo -- my buddy Cheryl can't make it.

Pencil me in for NVR cardfronts and Twisted cards. I'll really have to dig deep to get come up with a shoebox for 30+ (can you hear my knees shaking right now!) - I have trouble coming up with a shoebox for 8+3 at a table. Hopefully I can get my ideas together early -- I work two jobs, sell CTMH, and I'll be preparing taxes for a few weeks before this event. (Am I crazy or what????)

Oh Shoot, the Adventures in Stamping Rubber Stamp convention is the weekend of April 28th and 29th, guess I'll have to get someone to take pictures of the table projects and maybe some one will let me do some of their swaps. I did that once before and it worked out well for both of us. I did the swaps, my friends swaped them for me and got to see all the great designs to reproduce for herself and then after about a month, she got the swaps to me. I'm teaching 2 classes on Friday at the convention and 1 on Saturday. I'll be thinking of you guys.

I live in a little town called Hannibal - it's near Oswego NY. It'll be about a two hour drive for me but if someone else is close and wants a ride, I'd be happy to work out some details.

I am not nervous about driving in by myself - I lived in the Rome area for years and I used to work in Oriskany so I know the vicinity - with directions I can find my way better around your area than mine LOL.

I just work myself into a tizzy over my swaps - I am a worrier but once I'm busy I guess I won't have enough time to worry. LOL

Yeah, Bo I know what you mean. I'm a worrier too (got that from my dad). My worry is I won't get to do all the beautiful shoebox projects but I'm going to give it a shot. I figure one way or the other it'll all work out. The most fun for me is coming to the events with my local peeps (we always have an adventure), seeing my non-local stamping friends and making new stamping friends (doesn't it bring a tear to your eye...LOL). Well anyway...I started planning last night and have an idea for my ATC. Now all I have to do is adapt the measurments.

Take deep breaths! Worrying just gives you wrinkles and stomach aches! I have a stamp that says, "Worrying is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do but it doesn't get you anywhere." Everything always works out for the best.

Last night and this morning I organized all my clear stamps sets (that are still in their cello packaging) into catagories into plastic baskets. I made the dividers from cardboard from DP packs, used Tim Holtz dies to cut the tabs on top, and a P-Touch to make the labels. Ahhh...feels good to get that job done!

I actually finished my ATC for our ATC club ... is it this week or next week?? LOL

I might just have time to fit in an organizing project. I don't think I have anything else that is pressing. Although I might just tackle next months ATC??

I have laundry almost done, chili is bubbling on the stove, and the dishwasher is making my dishes all sparkly!! I'm going out to shovel a path for DH (he had to work this morning), but then I can craft the day away. While watching sports all day that is.

I'm going Bo and go right by all the Rochester exits since we will be coming from Batavia or Pembroke area. I'm trying to get a car load together now. I'll know more after Tuesday night.

Ok -- just curious -- how far are you all willing to drive for these events? I don't have much going on in my area so I am really making myself get out of my comfort zone (instead of doing mail only swaps) but I dont' know that I'd drive more than 2 or 3 hours tops for an event. I see that we are all from different parts so drive times are different depending on the venue.

BTW - I'm looking forward to this round table -- I have been known to be a little slow so I'll have to push myself to be a little faster if I want to get them all done. Hopefully I'll be up for the challenge.

I love that saying - I'll have to look around for a stamp like that for myself.

It usually takes us (PA girls) about 3+hours. We don't have anything close except when we have our local Gigglefests for about 6 - 10 of us. Then we are usually working on projects for these events. We're used to traveling.

Arlene, I love that saying too!
