Where's the current best place to buy these? I used to order from framingsupplies.com but it seems like the prices have gone up.
i always order the gold - but i just found some cards i made about a year ago are yellowing where the tape was. is the gold really acid free? makes me wonder!
anyway, thanks in advance! i figured you ladies would know the best place to purchase it right now!
I've been using the Tape Depot too. The price is good, I always buy a "case" (12 rolls) at a time. I have found it's not as good as the real stuff, but the little bit of aggravation that I have run into with it is made up by the good price. LOL
I just had to reorder myself. I also do a search around and compare prices. I still find that framingsupplies.com have the best prices! I get the ATG 908 Gold and it's 4.23 per roll for 1-11 rolls.
What I do have a problem with is the shipping!! It was going to be $12+ for shipping (and even factoring it it, it still was the cheapest I found). So when I ordered I put in the comment section that I wished they would add a cheaper shipping solution. You could get a bunch of those little rolls in a small flat rate PO box! I told them I would probably order more product if the shipping were lower!
Surprise!! I got an email from them this morning saying they would ship via USPS so would I like to add to my order? YES ma'am! I am so pleased that they actually listened and are willing to work with customers!! :p:p:p
So my vote is definitely for framingsupplies.com!!!
I just placed an order with Tape Depot and got it so fast I swear they're in the next state instead of all the way in FL (I'm in MN!). I had been getting the 3M refills from Michael's as they now carry those..you know, use a 50 or 40% off coupon but everybody must have learned that trick and now they never have it in stock so I went back to the "Depot"
I also recommend The Tape Depot as well. A great "no name" alternative!
How much do you normally pay for shipping? It doesn't look like we get to qualify for the free shipping on orders $50 or more. It looks like the rolls work out to be $1.95/ea which is a third of the price my LSS or Michaels them for.

What is the secret to the ATG?? There must be, I bought one and it seems that the tape doesn't break when I want it to?????? I did get it at Michael's with my coupon.
After watching some of my "real life" scrap friend fight with off brand tape, I'm hesitant to buy anything except 3M's Scotch Gold.
I've always purchased my tape, 12 rolls at a time from framingsupplies.com, but other posters have said, the price has gone up a bit and the shipping cost is overpriced. I'm not sure what I'll do next time I need tape.

They do offer the free shipping for Canadians if over the $50, it just doesn't say it on their website. There was another tape thread where a fellow Canadian advised of this. When I bought, I bought two cases (had a group order) and they shipped it to me for free. I'd suggest giving them a call or sending an email.

Before I bought my gun and when I was researching The Tape Depot tape, I watched videos upon videos of people loading the ATG units with both 3M and "off brand" tape and they're basically the same. In fact, I found The Tape Depot tape easier to load than the initial two rolls of 3M that came with my Pink ATG. That might be because I'm more used to The Tape Depot tape, but I just don't know why some seem to have such a problem with it when others don't. I'm thankful I'm not one of "them". :-)

I just ordered from Tape Depot for the first time. I've struggled with the name brand stuff and had a similar issue with the off brand stuff. I think it's me...LOL.
Anyway, I bought 35 rolls and I think it's well worth the $$ saved. I also order some foam tape and it was $6 for a roll bigger than a frisbee. It's actually quite amusing in my craft room. The Scotch foam stuff is $5 for a little tiny roll. It's great!

You hold the button, roll it where you want it, and right before where you want it to end, release the button and pull quick. this breaks the tape neatly.

Oh no! Don't be telling me that LOL! Sounds like a really good buy. I don't use much of this but would like to find a source for cheap small foam dots/square/rectangles aka pop dots or whatever the brand names might be. I was using the ones available from the Dollarama here in Canada but I haven't been able to find them again. They were less than a 1/4 of the price of those at the local craft stores and the quantity was quite good. It seems like every time I find an alternative product I really like from our dollar store, they stop carrying it. I guess the other crafters find out quickly and it sells out.

Leslie, don't know if she ships to Canada but I've ordered dimensionals here and liked the product and the prices. Jody is an SCS Dirty Dozen alumni:

Amen and amen! I too asked for USPS shipping and saved about $8. The 3M gold 908 tape just can't be beat, but it is a trial at first, to learn to load the gun and to apply the tape . I'm not sure why it seems so difficult and then finally seems incredibly easy.
And the problems I heard with off-brands is that the adhesive comes off the wrong way. Here is a video that shows (sort of) how to fix that problem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=KLYPkW4H964
thanks ladies, and thanks for the shipping tip! usually i split my order with my mom so we save on shipping! this time i have a friend interested, and not my mom, so i'll still get to save on shipping...but i will ask about usps! thanks!!
i'm so hesitant to use anything other than the atg gold....and i think how much cheaper it is than other smaller tape runners and that helps!

It's not just with off-brands. I opened a Scotch gold refill at work yesterday, and it's wound the wrong way. I'll try the method on the video, but I don't see how that will "magically" help. It's worth a try, though.

I don't know if I'm describing it properly or clearly but it isn't that the tape is wound the wrong way. It looks like that is the problem but what is happening is the tape and the liner end up separated somehow on the wrong side. You just have to "catch up" the piece that isn't on the proper side and get rid of it. I wish I could show pictures of what I mean but the gist is you end up losing a piece of tape no longer than two inches at the most to get the pieces in the correct spot, and it only happens at the beginning of the roll if it wasn't loaded properly in the first place. I know this is as clear as mud but it only takes seconds to fix it and get it rolling properly.

Wow - that is great customer service! I am going to have to do this next time I order from them. I just ordered about 3 weeks ago and thought the same thing about the shipping. I did comparison shop and found their price to be the cheapest and they ship fast too.

Good instructions, Leslie. I finally figured this out myself. When it first happened, I threw the roll away because I thought it was defective. However, I finally found it was like a lot of things - user error!

I just got off the phone with them and they were awesome! I am Canadian and want to avoid paying brokerage fees on top of duty (shipping is free on orders of $50 even to Canada). They assured me that they send using USPS instead of UPS. I am expecting a call from their business manager tomorrow to talk to me about how they will be packaging the order to best suit me. How excellent is that!?!?
Hopefully the tape is as great as the customer service!
Do most of you use the 1/2" or the 3/4"? and Thanks for introducing me to Tape Depot :-D
I only use 1/4", which is all that fits my Red ATG 714, and I've been quite happy with it. I'm guessing the pink ATG holds the same. The yellow ATG gun is for 1/2" but can use 1/4" with an adapter.
I figure if I need something wider, I'd just put down another strip. The 1/4" is thin so I have no problems using it on ribbon or small embellishments.
I also did some cost comparisons and decided to order from Tape Depot, However, when I tried to place my order, I discovered I needed to pay via PayPal. I was very disappointed because I do not use PayPal. I figured I would be able to pay by credit card.........so I had to cancel my order. :(

I know exactly what you mean. I've had that problem with both tapes. I've also had the gold name brand stuff double wind (where the liner folds up and comes out the front end?!?--that talent, huh?) and I end up wasting a ton of tape trying to fix it.
