I use to just store my ink pads in an old cassette tape holder. That way most of them were stored standing up. I've now outgrown that.
What do you use to store ink pads? I don't have a lot but a few. Some are full size in pads. I also have the cats eye chalk inks and just bought 2 little square ink pads for .97 at walmart.

Also, does it matter if they are stored vertically or horizontally?
Just got back in from my husband's shop where we were working on my Christmas present....from two years ago. We're building a storage unit with slots (like a cassette tape holder...think the Napa valley wooden ones). It will hold 125 full SU! stamp pads when done. It really will look like the Napa Valley cassette cases only larger and painted black and for about 1/3 the cost. Type it into ebay to see what I'm talking about. I plan on putting a little "rail" on the top to hold stampin spots. I do store ALL my ink pads upside down to keep the ink at the surface.
If you get a design figured out for what you want, talk to a local High School shop teacher to see if any student needs a project for class. They will often build it for the cost of materials since they need a project to be graded and may not want to spend the money on supplies.
I had my dad build me one from some scrap wood he had. Basically I just stack them on top of each other, but it hangs on the wall so they are easy to reach and see. View my gallery for a pic. It is just basic, nothing fancy but easy to make. I store all my small ink pads, like the cubes, stampin spots and cats eye in a clam shell case upside down.

That is what I call a collection of stamp pads!!! You must be the neatest stamper I've seen in ages. Look how tidy everything is. The whole time I looked at your picture I was thinking..."Where's her Stampin Up butterfly punch?" Have you seen the lovely pansies they make with that punch?

It's so funny how we all tend to search and stay with the same threads. One person will post something and it will be around for awhile and then when it's mentioned in another thread, it's like NEW NEWS. Do you know what I mean? Kinda hard to explain what I mean.

Beverly, it worked perfectly. Thanks so much for finding that. I don't have that punch, but I think it will be on my next order. That is such a cool technique. I've always wanted that punch, and now that I know it can do double-duty, it is a must-have.

That is how I made mine but with foam board (mine sets on my table). I recycled the foam board from another project (ribbon holder) but I sold most of that ribbon on a garage sale and needed a neat way to store my ink pads.
I also made my own inkpad holder from foam board. There are more pictures in my gallery. I've put together intructions on how I made it. The instructions are very scalable, so you can adjust for just about anything. If you want the instructions, just e-mail me at [email protected]
By the way, to give proper credit, I want to again thank the RebelInker and The Frugal Crafter for the inspiration for my design. I'd had RebelInker's Foam Core Inkpad Holder instructions for awhile, intending to make one. Then one day I saw The Frugal Crafter's tutorial on youtube on how she made a ribbon storage rack out of foam core. That started my gears turning, and I thought about it for a couple weeks, then I started drawing out my design. I made a protoype, then refined the design and made my large inkpad holder. I posted pictures, and I had so many people ask me how I did it, so I converted my notes and drawings into electronic format to share with everyone.

I do the same thing. Bought those cassette tape holders used and cheap - nobody needs them anymore. The kind that is like a little wood shelf. Just tipped it 45 degrees so the ink pads are stored horizontally. It works just fine. And it's cheap. Best for SU ink pads. Versamark and most pigment ink pads did not fit. Some racks are kind of shallow though, the ink pads would fall out, so it's best to try them first.
I'm losing my office (our new baby needs a room), so have to move my craft stuff. I figure it's a good excuse to reorganize. Are there any new options for ink pad storage out there?
