Default TLC335 ~ Chunky Card Presentation ~ (07/25/11)

Hi Stampers!

Isnt it just a shame when you make a gorgeous card with a fabulous large bow or some 3D elements and then you have to shove it into an envelope that flattens all the pretties? Well, today were going to help you create a single card box that will be as pretty as your card! Dont let the title fool you. Todays challenge can be used for CAS cards, too! Disclaimer: These are not for mailing!

~ Chunky Card Presentation ~

A while back, while surfing some blogs, I came across this little box designed by Angie Kennedy Juda (Chic N Scratch Live~blog). I loved the mechanics of the box and started thinking it would be a great design for a slim line card box. I contacted Angie to see if she would let me use her idea and she was gracious in letting me. Here are the instructions for the altered concept box:

** Make sure you watch Angies video. It will help you understand my instructions! **

Supplies:

1 piece of cardstock cut 10 x 5 7/8 (well call this piece A) ~ see visual in Post #2

1 piece of cardstock cut 6 x 5 3/8 (piece B) ~ see visual in Post #2

1 8 piece of twine or string

1 medium sized brad

Sticky tape

Small hole punch

Optional: acetate, nestabilities

Instructions:

Score piece A @ , 5 1/8, 5 5/8, and 10 3/8 along the 10 side.

Score piece B @ 3/8 on all four sides

Fold all four sides of piece B to loosen the score lines. Cut along the 3/8 scoreline in each corner and apply strong adhesive. Fold the piece into a tray.

Fold all score lines on piece A to loosen score lines. At this point, you can die cut a window into the piece for a window, or leave it as is. NOTE: see diagram for which side is the top and which side is the bottom (post #2).

On the 3/8 flap of piece A, punch a small hole near the score line in the middle of your piece. Thread your twine through the hole leaving a 2-3 tail hanging out.

Using strong adhesive, attach the remaining twine to the inside (Area C). Now you can adhere your tray to Area C as well.

Punch a hole in the top flap (middle centered) and insert brad.

Decorate box to coordinate with your card!

IMPORTANT: While making these boxes, it was discovered that the measurements I used work if you are using a scoring blade (i.e. fiskars), but if you use a score pal, the measurements are slightly off because of the wider score lines. In that case, you may wish to add 1/16th inch to each side of PIECE B and 1/8 to the total length of PIECE A. If in doubt, you may wish to cut/score a trial using a piece of cheap white cardstock. Remember, measure twice, cut once!

I had the pleasure of stamping with a few friends this past week and we all made one of these boxes. I asked the girls to share their finished projects as samples for todays challenge. See them in the attachments below.

Here is my sample:

~ Presentation Box ~

~ Presentation Box Card ~

I realize this is a bit of a tougher challenge, but I really think youre going to like the results! If you would rather not use my example, there is a tutorial in the resources section HERE, that works, too.

Remember, when uploading, please use KEYWORD TLC335 (no spaces)

You can view the entire TLC335 gallery HERE.

A huge thanks to:

Theresa Winslow
Lee Murphy
Angela Maez

Their samples are below:

Happy creating!

Looks like a fun challenge, Holly. What size card fits in your box?

It is for A2 sized cards. I could probably do dimensions for a square card, but it couldn't be more than 5x5. Let me know if you need those dimensions!

I tried twice and just couldn't get the box to look how I would want. Think it is lack of mojo, but I'll try again. Maybe third time is a charm.

I hate admitting defeat, but this is one technique, I haven't been able to get a good result at all. I tried 3 more boxes and I hated all of them. :(

Ok, I made my box. I added cardboard to make it stiffer. I am not in love with this project, but it sure beats all the others that I made. Don't think I'll be making any more of these, but I didn't give up.
