TLC334 ~ Color Blocking With a Twist ~ (7/18/11)
Hello everyone!! I have had such a wonderful weekend... Bev (TexasGrammy) and I demoed in the Rubbernecker booth at the Grapevine, Texas Stamp Show....we had sooo much fun and got to meet some SCS's....how cool is that!!! Anyway...I'm all pumped up for a challenge...how about you???
This week our challenge was suggested by Sue (bensarmon) .....we will be doing color blocking with a twist!! You can do the traditional color blocking if you want....stamp an acrylic block on an ink pad and stamp it on the cardstock....or....
1. Color the block with watercolor crayons, spritz with water and stamp on the cardstock.
2. Spray the block with Glimmer Mist or any other spray color medium and stamp on the cardstock.
3. Color the block and then stamp it with a stamp before placing the block on the cardstock for a little added texture.
4. Color block the cardstock then cutout the colored area with flower shaped dies and make some color blocked flowers.
5. Use the largest acrylic block you have, add several different colors of ink, crayons, or mist to create your own patterned paper
6. Make a patchwork background with the color blocking
7. Be creative and do the unexpected but, as always...have fun!!! The sky is the limit!!!
Here is a tutorial for a stamped acrylic block background.

Hi Joan, thanks for all your wonderful suggestions. For those of us who are new, what's a "traditional color blocking?" Any video referrals would be helpful. Thanks again.

Hi Chris....traditional color blocking is just stamping an acrylic block on an ink pad and then stamping the cardstock. This is mostly used as a background for another stamped image. I will look in the resource section to see if I can find you a tutorial....Joan

I always understood traditional colour blocking to be using blocks of colour but not necessarily using stamping, or is that just because I learnt it from scrapbooking? Just trying to understand if we're definitely meant to be using acrylic blocks for our challenge today. I've seen Tim Holtz do it with an inked-up foam pad..., and I used to just use fun foam sometimes.
Here's the tutorial from Resources for an acrylic block background - Splitcoaststampers - Tutorials

Okay, so I tried to do the twist but nothing was coming out well, so I resorted to the traditional acrylic block stamping to create the bg for my Carpe Cupcake card. I'd never done that before so it WAS a new technique for me!

Sounds like you had a fun week-end, Joan! This is a fun idea. I thought my square acrylic blocks lent themselves well to make "ice cubes".......meshing with the CAS challenge for today as well. Thanks!

I am so jealous there was a stamping show you hosted. Would love to have been there - which brings up my next question...when will there ever be a stamping show of sorts in St. Louis, MO? ... or did I miss it - OH NO
Thanks, Sue, for a great challenge, can't wait to play later today. And thanks to Joan, for posting with tutorial.

Thanks for the fun challenge Joan!
My card is super super simple today. I did a different twist then suggested.
I "TWISTED" the cap off of 4 different colors of Stickles for my color blocking!
Here is my "Color Blocked Stickles" card.
Hugs,
True

Hey Joan! This is another great technique find!! Wonderful samples too! Love the easy technique with the great Wow factor! I'm so happy I got some hugs and "quality" time with you and Bev yesterday! You two had the most popular booth at the show -- no surprise!! It was great to see you both!
