February Calendar
Author Unknown
Four children represent birthdays of Lincoln, Saint Valentine, Washington, and Longfellow. Each wears a large white card with the date of the day he or she represents upon it, in red or blue figures. All four may give the first and last verses together.
All Recite:
Down from the big new calendar,
We've come a long, long ways!
We're February's twenty-eight
Good-natured winter days.
First Child:
Unfurl the flag-hats off-three cheers--
The Twelfth our love must claim
And all across our grateful land
We favor Lincoln's name.
Second Child:
Among the many other days
I stand Fourteenth in line,
With greater heroes, don't forget
Good old Saint Valentine.
Third Child:
I am the Twenty-second day,
Undimmed through storm and sun
I keep a well-beloved name,
The name of Washington.
Fourth Child:
Between the winter's darkness and
The daylight of the spring,
Comes the Twenty-seventh day--
When Longfellow's praise we sing.
All (holding out hands):
So, from our big new calendar,
We've come with love and praise,
We're February's twenty-eight
True-hearted winter days.
