Default Embossing with Nesties and rubber mat

Just FYI....I went to Ace Hardware today and for about $7.00 they have a package called Red Rubber Sheet Packing (by Ace) in the plumbing dept.

It has a 1/16 inch and 1/8 inch thick 6x6 squares of rubber sheeting.

The 1/8 inch thick one embosses without a shim!

In your CB starting on the platform:

A pad
B pad
Nestie cutting side up (with paper already cut inside Nestie)
1/8" rubber mat
B pad

Roll it through and it makes a nice deep emboss. I am getting ready to use my brass stencils to see if it works with them.

Will let you know what I found out!

HTH anyone who is wanting to try this.

My Spellbinders tan mat must be one of the first ones made. It is so 'gushy' that it spreads like wildfire when put through the Machine and crumbles my papers and my Nesties so bad that I can no longer use it without scrap papers to protect it and sometimes that doesn't even help. Went to HD to buy a small sheet..it was $1.87 for a 6 x 6 inch sheet. My DH was with me and he said we had some back at the shop...he's a plumber!!!! He says there is a roll of plumber's gasket in the shop, but I have yet to see it!!!! i better get out there now that I see it works so well. Hope it's 1/8" so I can skip the shim next time. thanks, Beaglelover, for the hint.

Has anyone tried this in a BigKick or BigShot? I haven't been able to get good embossing from Nestabilities. Appreciate any suggestions.

Yes me too I have a BigKick and would like to know the "sandwich" ingredients. I bought a set of nesties a few weeks ago and STILL haven't used them! (I KNOW - the SHAME OF IT ALL!!!)

subbing - I have some Nestabilities that I haven't used yet because I'm not sure how to make a sandwich with them either.

The plumbers red rubber gasket sheets at Home depot do the same thing, and work really well. If you ever have to replace your tan emboss. mat, these are a lot cheaper.

Smile using and embossing with Nesties and sizzixs

I was confused about layer recipes, but was happy to see the package gives you the order in which you place paper, platforms shims mats etc.
love the idea of the rubber at the hardware store. thanks!

.......the brass stencils didn't work. The embossing showed up on the mat not on the paper...too weird for me!

I found my oval nesties would shift while using the rubber mat so I taped the nestie down with just a piece of scotch tape. Worked like a charm. Hope this helps too!

I have had trouble with shifting too when using the 6" square plumbers' gasket from Lowes. Tape helps, but it is a nuisance. I think the Lowes gasket is just a tad too thick and that's why it causes the shifting.

I have a Bigkick and this is the layer I make when embossing with the Nesties.

when I cut I have all layers on the platform closed for that pass through

when I emboss I open the top flap on the platform
clear acrylic plate
die face up
paper
rubber mats.. I use the tan Nestabilities mats and I use both of them at the same time
clear acrylic plate

You can use one mat, but the embossing isn't as nice as when you use two.
