I loved the craft shows...Aleene's show, Carol Duval, Scrapbooking shows,
Beading shows...They have all disappeared from TV (HGTV, DIYTV Public TV, TLC ect. I even got up at 6am on Sunday mornings to catch the Scrapbook show on public tv in my area....I thought that when they all went away some new cable station would be created that would be all crafts all the time...
I know I can watch them on line but it's not the same..I used to watch them in my craft room while working on stuff. Or laying on the couch...
I really miss them!!! How about you..I live in a suburb outside of Detroit...
Let me know if you know of any....:-D

Rumor has it that Carol Duval is coming out with a show on the internet.
Also The show on PBS is still being taped. Request your local station carry the show and if they get enough requests they will
I'm with all of you in missing the craft shows on HGTV. I don't understand why they were taken off the channel.
I most miss Carol Duvall. She may not be the crafter, but her guests were super to watch!
I really doubt contacting my cable company would get anywhere in bringing back these kinds of shows.
At least I can get the projects from Carol's old shows on-line. At the end of the projects, they give all the Resources with websites which I find helpful.
They occasionally re-run old episodes of DIY Scrapbooking with Sandi Genovese, and BYU has Scrapbook Memories. (I have the Dish Network.) I think they still tape that, because I've seen the 2010 series. I do miss all the other shows, and I'm glad Carol Duvall is coming back. Her show and Aleene's show were the first craft shows I ever watched.
Thanks for the reminder about HGTV. I've been telling my DH that I'm going to send HGTV an email about their programming line-up. I think the channel should be called RETV: Real Estate TV. I suppose it's fine for people who want to see all the "how to fix up your house to sell" or "how to buy a house you can't afford by making room for a tenant in your basement". ;) But I liked the gardening and crafting shows they used to have. I don't think I'm alone, either.
Cindy, go get em'. I totally agree with you about HGTV.
I too liked to watch while at my craft table, so watching online isn't for me. I used to not be to fond of Martha Stewart, but she's about the only one these days and I find myself watching more and more if able to at the time slot for my area.
CindyB.....I had to laugh at your post. I do still watch a lot of HGTV and the real estate shows. Even though I am an apartment dweller now, I still enjoy them.
I agree that the craft shows all used to be on in the AM, but then again, unfortunately, I was home when I got into them. When working, yes, I did tape them.
I'm not interested in purchasing a home, but I guess I can pretend the counters in my rental are made of granite and I have a walk in shower with a jetted tub!
I'd settle for even just Carol's show coming back, it had a decent amount of variety projects.

I have gone from #1 fan of HGTV, to is that channel still on TV? I hate all the RETV and now seldom, if ever, watch anymore. I would love to see some craft shows, decorating shows and gardening shows again. Just how many people out there are actually buying a vacation home in a foreign country? Who are these people? I wish HGTV would get real!
Me too! I loved the Carol Duvall show and Sandi Genovese and the funny gal with the jewelry show.
pjw2855 where are you getting the old shows from? I looked on the web and couldn't find any.
As far as RETV I would love to have a house in France and "fix' it up!
Tiffany Windsor is Aleene's daughter and she does an online program called Inspired at home. They are on facebook. There are links to quite a few things from there. http://www.facebook.com/#!/tiffanywindsor?ref=ts
munzie....I did save the links for many of the episodes I was interested in before they changed the format for HGTV website. Also, if you do an internet search, you can still find many of her shows in printed form, not video. Just the featured guest with the project.
It sounds like Carol Duvall's new web show is a go and should be on soon. I really miss the good old days of craft shows on HGTV in the mornings. They play a rerun of some shows at 6:30 a.m. each day, Scrapbooking is Tuesday. The Discovery channel had a show or two also, back in the day.

We have like 16,000 sports channels on our cable...they couldn't squeeze in one little craft channel? Wouldn't that be cool...all crafts all the time!!! Let's start a letter writing campaign to the HGTV/Food Channel people. They're missing out on a HUGE market.
I speak the truth not so much as I would, but as much as I dare, .......and I dare a little more as I grow older. -Michel de Montaigne, essayist (1533-1592)
I'm not sure if this channel is available everywhere, but there's a channel on Time Warner in upstate NY called Bright TV. It's a branch of our local PBS. Channel 200 in the Albany area. It has Sewing with Nancy, Donna Dewberry, the girl that knits..can't remember her name, Katie Brown and some other shows. I always forget to check it, but do hit a few of them. It also has a lot of great travel shows on it, Rick Steves Europe, Equitrekking, and more. Plus, a lot of cooking shows. Check out your local PBS stations website and you might be able to see if it's on where you are.
We pay for Direct tv.... and HGTV is never new. How many times can you fix up the same place to sell? LOL The food channel is the same way. We pay the extra money to get the good shows but frankly I think we have been got. We added DIY for the scrapbooking shows and puff gone. The movies on the channels like LMN are repeats over and over. It is just ashame to spend so much money and not get our money's worth.
Maybe it is time for us all to make a card and send them a nice note asking fof some shows. I know I just sent an email to QVC about the lack of shows focusing on this. I haven't seen one in forever.
I miss them too. I am eager to see Carol back but would love to see something crafty on tv. I agree that stations are missing out on a huge audience. I don't really watch tv at all any more now, it just has gotten that crummy IMO.
i miss them too! there was one i used to watch on TLC many years ago, can't remember her name now, but it was nice when TLC used to have more 'learning' type programming.
I just want to add that I miss them as well!! For the longest time I didn't have cable; and only could watch shows like Carol Duvall when visiting my Mom. Also used to see some great craft shows on HGTV. Now, as you all have mentioned, these shows are GONE!! I finally have cable but I am tired of HGTV being all about buying homes, selling homes, redecorating homes, or buying a "vacation" home!! My local area even took Martha Stewart off the air. I want some CRAFT SHOWS back!!!!! I would totally watch and probably DVR all day an all craft channel!!
I used to watch HGTV all day on Saturday or if I was home- now there are only a few shows left that interest me. Candice Olsen rocks, but the "fix up to sell" things are just brainwashing in my opinion. Same with QVC, nomore craft shows. I miss DIY Scrapbooking, Carol Duvall, Sewing with Nancy and that other quilt show on HGTV. The shows were good, but the guests were the best! Like most things, I guess what I like just doesn't get enough ratings. Why is it we can have a Golf Channel but not Crafts?
Add me to the list of those who miss the craft shows. HGTV shot themselves in the foot big time when they put all of the "flip my house" type shows into production right before the housing market tanked. Ooops. I don't think I've watched HGTV in over a year.
If they were smart, they would've put more DIY and craft shows into production right away because, well, that's what viewers would be looking for - right? I love Carol but I'd like to see more diversity on the air. She has her place but there are so many other amazing artists & crafters whom I'd love to see get some air time.
I thought I had posted before, but I don't see it so if this is a cross post, please forgive me. I'm trying to track down the directions of a project I saw on Carol Duvall's show. I don't remember all the details, but I think it was made combining envelopes. The idea was to mail it to a friend including a card or some paper project one month and the friend was supposed to do the next month and and mail a letter or whatever back to you and so on and so forth. Does anyone besides me remember that project? I'd really like to do it with my college roommate from eons ago as she is in to stamping also. If you know where I can get the instructions or the episode number of the show, I'd really, really appreciate it. TIA
Lisa
I definitely miss all the craft shows, too! I loved the Carol Duvall show. I remember watching it as a teen and I think I was the only girl in High School who watched it
I also agree abou the 'RETV'. I have no plans of buying a second home so I'd like to see something else on that channel.
My mother in law were just talking about this the other day. She's finally retired and was looking forward to watching those shows in the mornings.
This thread started about a year ago and word was then that Carol Duvall was coming back with a new show. Does anyone have an update on this? We have all been in craft show withdrawal long enough!
Not a clue about Carol Duvall and what happened to her Internet show. Someone above mentioned Create TV. That's a huge disappointment --just another food channel.
I miss all those craft shows too. The PBS station my cable company carries does air Scrapbook Memories on Mondays at 2:00, but that is the only one I know of. It used to air Shay Pendray's Needlearts as well, but that too went off air a couple years ago.
With the explosion of etsy, beading, jewelry making, scrapbooking, etc. I am quite surprised that some network hasn't started a craft channel. Even if they only had 8 hours of unique programming a day, which aired three times, I think they'd make a go of it. The repeats would give those who work or have busy schedules the opportunity to actually catch the shows.

I found a "new" show a few weeks ago - it's called "Crafting at the Spotted Canary" and the host is Joy MacDonell (spell?). She used to be on with Sandi Genoves a lot.
I DVR'd about 10 episodes and now they are all re-runs. I've got to check their website. www.thespottedcanary.com
They also have on on the same PBS channel "Bake Decorate Celebrate" - all about decorating what else? Cakes!! LOL
I miss Aleene and her daughters Heidi and Tiffani. It was the FIRST craft show I ever saw! And yes it was generally just a giant info-mercial for Aleene's craft products - I LOVED IT! I still use the tacky glue - 20 years later!
I LOVED Carol Duvall and Mary "The Potato Stamp" queen, Tim Holt used to be on CD all the time back in the day. She had such a great variety of crafters - from paper, to sewing, to clay, sculpture, wood working, metalcrafting, glass blowing, you name it it was there!
I esp loved Carol's Holiday workshops - they'd air them for like a MONTH after they had a few year's worth taped - I was even going to fly to CA to be ON one of them but something happened and I wasn't able to go at the time they were taping.
:sigh: ahhh for the good ole days of HGTV and DIY - when genuine crafting (of ALL sorts) was seen as "normal" and "everyday" not - weird or unusual.
We should DEMAND equal time as the "RETV"!

Lisa - the project you're looking for is called a circle journal - I googled circle journal on carol duvall and there were pdf's of the project in the responses - Hope this helps!
You are all so right! It crept up on me slowly, but now I realize all my shows are gone. The last good craft program I saw on HGTV (we used to call it Hot Glue gun TV) was That's Clever.
I lost a lot in the housing crash and it doesn't help to see all the RETV programs and besides it's boring. The Food Channel just makes me hungry. I would like to think that artists and crafters spend as much as golfers and they have their own channel! Another yawn for me.
I am reduced to watching Real Housewives of Wherever. I'm ashamed to admit that. I think I have even lost some IQ points over this.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but DirecTV in our area carries the Mormon station, BYU, I think it is. It has a scrapbook show on twice a day weekdays. I was surprised to see a demo on airbrushing with Copics last time I watched. There was also a demo working with Cricut.
