And sort of along the lines of the tomato paste tube, I've been saving the foil pouches that many foods seems to be packaged in (raisins, etc.) and will experiment with embossing them.
You could use a sewing machine to sew the netting on. You could also use a stapler to attach it. There are the decorative staples, but I just read in this thread, that one can color staples with Copics or Bic Mark-Its.
