Default Clear stamp storage thought...

Hey again girls! I had another thought/idea...

I was looking at the SU clear mount storage cases the other day, and do you think it would be possible to buy the DVD cases (without the DVD holdy but) to put other clear mounts in? I have only found the slim line ones in stores so far but going to look at the reject shop tomorrow to see if they have some... (the reject shop is like a shop that sells things that a normal should would but MUCH cheaper I dont know what the US equivalent is lol)

Also do you think it is possible to buy the cases that seasons of DVD's come in without the DVD holder (IE the thicker DVD cases)? I was thinking that this would be a good idea to hold the SU mounted stamps in. I dont know about you but my OCD'ness goes NUTS with things being different heights lol.

Only a thought but what are your thoughts? I was hoping that doing it this way it would be cheaper than buying those storage boxes as shipping those to Aust is expensive.

Thanks!

I store all my unmounted stamps (clear or rubber) in CD cases. I know you can buy empty DVD cases on line, just Google it. Not sure about the price with international shipping but you could check. Good luck!

You can buy empty dvd cases, but the only place I found them without the hub thingy to hold a dvd is a wholesale place somewhere in the UK.

I know several ladies here looked for the "plain" cases like SU! sells and they couldn't find them either.

That said, I use dvd cases & just fit the stamps around the hub. I can get two sets in a standard size case and one in a slim case. These are "bare" rubber stamps.

In the past I purchased dozens of the the Super Jewel Box King from Sleeve City (www.sleevetown.com). They are clear and the insert is removable. In fact, when I ordered by phone I asked them to remove the insert before shipping so I got just the plain case. You could double check to make sure that the insert is still removable.

Elisha,

I got the cd cases from the Reject shop, and they were quite cheap. The black inserts were fairly easy to remove. They are good for my magnolia's and other stamps.

I had to make sure I got the crystal cd cases, the ones that are like glass almost. They can shatter if you aren't careful.

A couple of years ago I was switching all my unmounted stamps to CD cases and it was not a great idea for me as after repeated use the arms would break off. I now have a bag of about 200+ unbroken CD cases in my gararge to give to goodwill.

I switched ot the Univenture binder and I loke them better as I can store a lot of unlounted stamps in one case and they don't break.

I found clear DVD cases at stampbystep dot com.

Now I'd love to know if anyone has a label document for these style cases?

Do you mean to label the spine? If you go into Microsoft Word and use the label tab, there are spine labels for CD's as well as DVD's. I just print out on cardstock, trim and use red-line tape to adhere to the inside of the case.

I bought clear DVD cases from stamp by step and they're not slim but not the same as SU's DVD cases and the DVD case labels in Word do not work. I'm going to have to improvise, I guess. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I have the DVD cases from stamp-by-step as well & to label them I bought the Brother P-Touch label maker. I had to trim the width a bit, but they stick really well.

For those of you that use the DVD cases at stampbystep dot com
Do you like these cases?
Do the tabs break?

I currently have several of the SU ones but I do not like them as they are hard to open/close and they are expensive.
But for the stampbystep they are $51 for 50 cases and I love that price!

I have tons of the cases from stampbystep dot com. I used to use them to sore all of my Papertrey Ink stamps, but have since changed my storage method. In my opinion, the quality is great. The only problem I had was if there were stamps on both sides of the case, causing them to stick together occasionally. It just made it a little harder to open...just had to be a bit more gentle so the case wouldn't come apart. Usually they'd just pop back together though. The cases are currently just taking up space in my craft room..I use them behind things on shelves so the books/magazines/etc are closer to the front of the shelf. If anyone is interested, I could list them in the BST forum for a steal...I'd be willing to do 50 cases for $25 plus shipping, again, if anyone is interested. I'll have to double check how many I have, but there are at least 100.

I'm new and can't post a link, but this website: tapeonline.com has king size one/two jewel box cases that look like they would work. You buy the insert seperately, so you don't have to worry about them. Cheap too!

The earlier post for sleevecity is where you need to go, buy in bulk. I just bought 100, so w/ shipping, it only cost $1.09 per case. It's great if you have a ton of stamps or you can split the cost w/ friend. The nice thing about the Super King DVD cases, they are more eco friendly so I have no qualms putting the hubs in the recycle bin. When at the sleevecity site, there are many DVD cases on the page, you want the SUPER KING DVD (not slim and not any other type as most DVD cases are all one piece and you can not remove the hub).

I originally wanted the Stampendous Stuftainers, then the SU cases but they were just not cost effective enough for me (outrageous shipping fees + tax over twice what I pay locally). I just bought the Super King DVD cases. I think I'm going to be very happy once my storage rack gets here.

PS - I have shopped at sleevecity years ago for other stuff - they are very reputable.

One big thing to consider when choosing a storage method is make sure you know what the case is made of. If it is made of acetate in any form it will break down the cling foam and can create a permanent bond to your case.

I saw that in the new catty, SU's price for the DVD cases went up...I think $5.95.

A Muse Studio has them for $4.95 (4 pack) and the catty doesn't expire until next year.

I don't think that's an increase. I"ve always paid 5.95 for them.

Write them to ask! I did that with my laminating film and they answered me back in a timely manner. I love it when a firm has good Customer Service like that!

I definitely would not use them if they are acetate.

However, the cases at Stamp By Step are NOT acetate...they are polystyrene...and they are cheaper than Sleeve City. You might check them out.

Stamp Storage Cases - Stamp-By-Step: Premier Stamping & Scrapbooking Supplies

As far as I can tell they are the same case.

But the SU cases are so pricey! I am looking for a more reasonable option! Has anyone tried staples, officemax, etc. Do all the cases there have unremovable ring for the dvds?

Have you looked at the stamp 'n store binders? You can get the large or small binders at Univenture but you would have to cut the inserts in half to fit the small binders. You store your stamps on inserts like these.

I converted to using the smaller sizeand one of the smaller cases can hold close to 50 stamps. I imagine the larger size would hold close to 100 unmounted stamps. I love mine.

At first glance you may think it's more expensive but it really is not considering how many stamps you can store in one binder. I've been using mine for 2 years and they are very durable. I like that they lock so no stamps ever fall out.

Do you know if these cases from tapeonline.com contain acetate?
