Default TLC299 W.I.S.H technique

I want to share with you my favorite technique. I call it the W.I.S.H. technique. It stands for watermark, ink, spray and hold. I formally called it the ink spray smash technique, but I.S.S. sounded like something a snake would do. I like this technique for 3 reasons. It is EASY, CHEAP and FUN.
How easy is it? I have taught it to 6 year olds and they were able to do it on their own after seeing it done once.
How cheap is it? There are no special supplies to buy. Most stampers will have them in their homes already.
How fun is it? I think it is a blast to see a white piece of paper turn into a unique creation. Each time I do this technique I get a different look no matter what.

What supplies do you need?
ziplock bag
scissors
markers (watersoluble- I use cheap Crayola markers) (If you only have Copics, see post 19)
stamp
ink pad
water bottle
piece of white cardstock

Directions:
Stamp image on white cardstock using ink pad.
Cut the top and sides off of the ziplock bag.
Open bag and lay flat on table.
Scribble with markers on the bag.
Spray one side of the bag with water.
Fold bag together and let the marker ink mix.
Open and lay the cardstock, image down on the bag.
Hold for a few seconds to let the ink absorb.
If you want more color, repeat on other side of bag.
Let the cardstock dry and create.

edited to add*** Sometimes the cardstock curls when it dries. I run it through my cuttlebug with out any embossing folders. I just add enough folded typing paper until there is a little resistance. It flattens it out right away.***
There is a Video Tutorial I have on my blog showing this technique.
I wish it was better quality.

Looks like a great technique. Did you use a pigment ink pad to stamp your image?

I forgot to add that sometimes the cardstock curls a little when it dries. I take it and run it through my cuttlebug with no embossing folders. I fold a couple of sheets of typing paper until there is a little resistance going through. That flattens it out right away.

Your cards are beautiful with your WISH bg and signature butterflies. I need to get some cheap water-based markers since what I used did not respond well with the water. I plan on trying your technique again. Thanks, MariLynn.

I have a rather dumb question, but since I'm actually asking it, that does somewhat diminish the dumbness. I believe that a cuttlebug is the same thing as a big shot. Am I correct? All I have is a big shot, so I'm hoping that my belief is correct.

I'm sure the big shot would get the same flattening result!

What a great technique! I used Tombow markers in tans, browns, and olives plus lots of water, to make my paper look antique. I think it worked great! That is after I figured out not to "rub" the baggie once you close it!
Here is my "Our First Christmas In Our New Home" ornament that I made for my son and DIL.

Hugs,
True

I don't think I had the right markers. I used Twinkling H20's.

If you only have expensive markers like COPICS, you could use pigment ink pads instead of the markers to stamp on to the ziplock bag.

MariLynn, Now you really want to make us feel bad telling us that a 6 year old can do this. (But maybe not a 63 year old?) It looks like fun, if a bit messy, so I'll give it a try. I keep hoping that I will have success with one of these background techniques. Maybe this will be the one! Hope to post something later today.

Now Val, would I purposely try to make you feel bad? I wouldn't have mentioned the "6 year" old part if I wasn't confident that everyone could do it. But since you mentioned it, I'll add a disclaimer. "Don't feel bad about the 6 year old part. It isn't meant to make anyone feel bad if this technique doesn't work for you.";)

Well, I threw out the first two tries! Then I kept seeing such pretty ones in the gallery, I tried again! I really am happy how this one turned out! I finally did it with SU! markers. I tried with sharpies, haha , they don't work!
Thank you for a great challenge! Here is my Copper Wish.Sharon

I did 3 takes on this and wasn't overly thrilled with any of them - until I stacked them all together! I drew a template and voila a snowflake. Only thing I did in addition was add some white pearl acrylic paint dabs to the bag. Here is my "When you W.I.S.H. upon a Star".

I hid the markers and can't find them. LOL, at least my furniture isn't getting marked up! I used re-inkers & Shimmer paint instead and no water. Hope it still counts.

Here's my Peach, Love, Joy

Thanks for taking a look.
