**Welcome to Hope You Can Cling To!**
Splitcoaststampers is proud to partner with the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for a month long card drive to benefit those affected by breast cancer.
Whether your stamps cling to acrylic, wood, or to your hard drive, they hold the power to convey hope and lift the spirits of anyone who sees what you create with them. That is the inspiration for our Hope You Can Cling To stamping campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We are kicking this campaign off on World Cardmaking Day - a day of celebration of the power of a handmade card. We encourage papercrafters across the globe to put their talents to work creating beautiful handmade cards to send to patients and their families at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and, in the process, turn our gallery pink!
Hope is powerful medicine. Here is part of a letter recently sent to one of our site challenge hostesses from Jackie (M&M'sgrandma), a member of our community who is battling breast cancer:
I can never express how much getting all the cards has meant to me. On down days they are a ray of sunshine to brighten my day. So many people wrote of cancer survivors in their own family with wonderful words of encouragement. To know that all the people who have sent cards are praying for me is a powerful feeling. I have received a total of 73 cards to date and they are everywhere there is a free spot in my room. To have them to encourage me each day is wonderful, they are all so beautiful.
Jenny (jennypoo) writes:
A few of my friends met us at our house before heading to my parents, and I was showing them the cards you ladies have made for me. You guys blew the socks off them - LOL. They couldn't believe they were handmade, and they were getting a kick out of seeing where they came from. So you ladies managed to touch even more people through the cards.
Many in our community have been affected by breast cancer, directly or indirectly. We would love for each of the patients at the UT MD Anderson cancer center and their families to feel this same encouragement and inspiration and we know this community always rises to a challenge.
There will be special challenges in our Splitcoaststampers Hope You Can Cling To Challenge Forum and our Member Company forums to inspire you throughout the month, and we will have some fun giveaways, including of course, some pink!
We'll begin the campaign with three challenges today, and we will have one each day in October. So head on over to the Master Challenge Thread and let's get crafty!

Love this cause, Lydia! As a young about-to-graduate physical therapist, I did a six week internship at M. D. Anderson, and it really changed my life! I appreciate the dedication and expertise it takes to be a professional committed day in, day out to treating patients battling cancer. That's a special kind of person!
My good friend (more like a 2nd mom) just had bilateral mastectomies last week, so she's home recovering now...makes these challenges even more timely for me! What a great way to spend some stamping time in October.

Question - it says you can't combine challenges - which I understand. Can we combine them with external (outside SCS) challenges? (I'm a challenge junkie!)

Can we combine them with a sketch challenge just as long as each of these challenges are not combined?

I am a little confused. Are you asking us to send blank cards to MD Anderson for patients and their families to use? Or should we be writing messages in them? If they're going to use the cards, I assume most any type is OK - birthday, Christmas, thank you, support?
Sorry for so many questions. It's early and I haven't had my coffee yet!

Any embellishment restrictions?
Before I get started, I just wondered if there were any restrictions regarding the use of embellishments? I know that for some previous card drives there were restrictions about the use of glitter and even buttons as there were concerns regarding the medical environment being contaminated or things that would fall off the cards, etc.
Thanks for sponsoring such a great cause! I'm sure the SCS community will respond with enthusiasm.

I am thrilled to see what's happening here all month. My family has been hit hard with breast cancer, as some of my on-line friends know. My Mother, Aunt and 2 younger sisters are all survivors. One sister has been battling a recurrence all year, so tough to see. My stamping friends have lifted her up with cards both beautiful and funny. When I flew home to visit they were everywhere and her eyes lit up as she showed them to me. The power of a card! I hope everyone can participate and touch patients & families at MD Anderson, a fabulous place for cancer treatment and research.

Thx so much for this wonderful challenge. My mother died from breast cancer, so this is a very special cause for me. I am so going to join in the fun and get some cards made. I know they will be so appreciated.

This is such a fabulous cause! My nan (grandma) died of 3 cancers 20 years ago this year after 18 months plus of sheer hell. Her doctor kept telling her that the lumps (note lumps not just the one!) were nothing and just because she was getting old (she was 52 at the time!). After about 6 months or so she went to the doctors for something else and a locum was on as her doctor was off sick. He rushed her in for tests straight away and by that point the cancer had spread too far in her breasts to do anything with. Within 18 months she had died of breast cancer, skin cancer and cancer of the marrowbone and as her cancer was so wide spread none of the treatments she endured did anything at all. If only that first doctor had taken her worries more seriously!!! So basically anything I can do to support cancer research causes I jump on (although I can't do the running type ones but I will always send in donations!).
Over here in the UK we have a card drive for Cancer Research every year, organised by one of the UK craft companies and I always make sure the local stores can bags full of cards to sell.
Anyway, quick question after all my babbling, if I send UK sized cards with UK sized envelopes will these be ok? Is there a deadline for sending the cards in as well? I will probably send a box over at the end of the month rather than some each week.
Hugs, Vannessa x

Yay! I finished all three challenges for today and will look forward to tomorrow! My mom is a 25-year breast cancer survivor, and I work with a woman who is a 5-year breast cancer survivor. I'm going to try hard to participate all month.
I have a question -- Each of the challenge explanation posts list three links: one for that particular challenge, one for the Hope You Can Cling To gallery, and one for the Master Challenge thread. How does a card get into the Hope You Can Cling To gallery? Is there a keyword for that gallery as well as the individual challenge galleries? At the moment there are only eleven cards in the Hope You Can Gling To gallery. I hope my question is clear!

Hi there! The Master challenge thread doesn't allow comments because it's for reference. But each individual challenge has its own thread where you can comment. There are three challenges today - the last three threads.
We would love to see your cards! Let me know if you need help!
