Does anyone know if there is a substitute for the blending solution that is used with the alcohol ink techniques. I just bought the Tim Holtz alcohol inks, blending tools, blending pads, glossy paper and masks. I did not know that there is a blending solution that should be used. I did not see it on the shelf with the rest of his products. I am anxious to use the inks and now I find out that I am missing part of the technique. You are all so creative that I am thinking someone knows of a substitute...at least I hope so. Have a great day and thanks for the help!:confused:
And you get better results if you can find the 91% vs the more easily found 70% (I've found it at drug store chains such as Rite Aid vs grocery stores etc.)
It won't be exactly the same, but 91% will work pretty good. It's tough to squirt a little alcohol (from that bottle) into the felt!

I bought a container of ISO-PROPYAL alcohol online, I think thats the equivalent of 91% rubbing alcohol- works brilliantly. Good idea to decant into a (much) smaller bottle though.Maybe a fine tipped glue bottle? You can get rubbing alcohol from Chemists(drugstores) or from hairdressing suppliers, they use it for cleaning combs etc. also from tatooists suppliers- again used for cleaning equipment. And it does work out way cheaper than the branded one-and if you check out the label on the 'real' stuff, it reads '' Ethanol,Propylene Glycol Methyl Ether, Isopropanol''.
I use 70% IsoPropyl Alcohol to clean up my area where I airbrush. Works like a charm. I actually bought a huge bottle and transferred it to a large spray bottle. So after I am done airbrushing (I have a plastic craft mat under my thing), I just spritz and wipe off. Clean as a whistle. I have also used the spray bottle when I have airbrushed on glossy photo paper to spritz it and get a really neat effect. Haven't used it on any cards yet though.
thank you all for the response. I have alcohol in my first aid kit - 70% so I will be going to the drugstore to try and find the 91%. Thank you all for your prompt responses.
There aqre many times you can use the alcohol inks and not use the Blending Solution. Yes, it can blend the colors, but you can also use the inks alone, too. Just depends on the look you're going for.
