Question substitute for embossing buddy???

Eeeks - I cannot find my embossing buddy. And, I have a big embossing project to do now. What do you use before stamping and dumping embossing powder? Do you have a substitute?

Also, any ideas on how I could attach a chain or tether to my embossing buddy when I do find it. That pesky things is always missing! I think it goes to hang out with the missing socks.

Default Swifter pads or used dryer sheets

I understand used dryer sheets work and Swifter pads (my SU demo used one of these at an Open house so it must work).

I've read before (surely on this site) that you can dip a soft rag in a bit of corn starch and you get the same effect as the embossing buddy. Good luck on your hunt for the buddy that is inevitably with your socks!

I put some corn starch in an old toddler sock (since inevitably I end up with many sock singles after the laundry gremlin gobbles them up!) and use it just like the embossing buddy...works like a charm!

Thanks so much for sharing this idea, I have some retired ladies on a budget and they'll love this idea. I'll have to email it to them right now. I guess I'll have to make them a little bag though because they don't have any toddlers running around the house to snatch a sock from.
thanks again,
Rox

When you find it, I'm sure that some of my socks will be hanging out with it. Please send them my way!

Re: the dryer sheets -- I've heard that they have to be USED, not new. I've not tried it either way, but that's what I remember reading . . .

I have used dryer sheets, (new ones) and sometimes it works good and other times it doesn't. The cornstarch is great. I was told that's what was in the eb but I don't know that for sure. I make my own stamp cleaner all the time. I never buy it and it's great.

You can use an old piece of panty hose to hold either corn starch or baby powder to make an embossing pouch if you don't have a toddler sock around.

I made a small pouch out of muslin, filled it with cornstarch and stitched it up like a pillow. Works just like the eb and very cheep.

You don't really need it! The secret is handling the paper by the edges...all that EP that sticks hither and yon is sticking to the oil from your fingers. Everytime you touch the paper, you leave a spot for EP to stick.

Yay! Wanted to make a triple card with embossing powder and couldn't find my buddy! Put about a tablespoon of corn starch in a tiny sock, put on a tight rubber band and done! Since I was using fine white and fine black I really needed it to work and it did...not quite as perfect as my buddy but great. I also never touch the edges with my fingers after I use embossing buddy. I agree with the post above the the oil from your finger cause the embossing powder to stay but I have to get the oil off from all the times I touch it to begin with...like when pulling it out and cutting it. Thanks!
