Hello ladies and welcome to the Scrapbook Inspiration Challenge thread! Im excited to be joining you. I am sharing this thread with Wendy (wendella247) and together we hope to inspire to you to scrap more, try new techniques, and step out of your comfort zone. These are 2 week challenges, so you have plenty of time to play along. And to make it even more fun, I will offer a monthly prize to a randomly drawn scrapper. The more challenges you complete during the month, the more times your name goes into the drawing. So lets get started!
The Challenge
Since its the first week, I wanted to keep it simple. Most of us have punches and die cuts in our stash, so lets get them out and use them on our layouts! You can use hand held punches, pre-cut shaped die cuts, or dies like Spellbinders. Oh, and dont forget the mini hole punches that came with the eyelet setter tools by Making Memories. Mine came with 3 different sizes and is great to use on areas you cant reach with other punches. I want you to get creative with them. You have used them on your cards, now lets use them on our layouts. Inspire us!
Here are a few ideas to spark your creativity:
1. Stamp on them.
2. Use them on a frame for your photos.
3. Use them to create a patterned monochromatic background.
4. Punch DP with them.
5. Use them as a mask
6. Punch other mediums with them, cork, tissue paper, acetate, foil or thin metal, vellum and fabric (coat the back with Gesso first to stiffen it. And Im wondering if a Spellbinders die would work on felt??
7. Create buttons.
8. Piece together several shapes to create a new shape.
9. Add texture to a pre-cut die or punched shape using an embossing folder.
10. Sew across them. Recently I saw a card that had butterflies attached with stitches down the center.
11. Journal on them.
On this one I used a hand held punch to create the star border on my mat
On this one I stamped on the flower punch and used a circle punch to create the button
I created a monochromatic background with punched images. I used a .005 Micron pen on a couple of the flowers at the top. It makes them pop a little.
On this one I used a pre-cut die by Creative Cuts and More. I used a pink and white cupcake die for this one. I stamped this pink cupcake liner with black polka dots. I trimmed the white cupcake frosting and candle off of the white cupcake die and adhered it to the pink one. I covered the icing and flame with glitter. I colored the pink candle with a black marker.
I have 5 more inspiration photo's posted over on my blog if you are not sure what all of the descriptions above mean. I wish I could have posted them for you in this thread. But I was limited to 4 photo's. HERE
Make sure you put SIC80 in the labels section so it will show up in our gallery. Post here when you have created your layout and let us know how you used a die cut or punch.
I cant wait to see what you come up with!!
How you can WIN!
This month I will be giving away a Creative Cuts and More package to one lucky winner! Creative Cuts and More is an AWESOME die cut company that sells not only die cut shapes but fun cards with shaped windows, 3-D paper projects (already cut and scored), and so much more. You can check them out HERE, if you like.
Each time you earn a point, your name goes into the hat. This applies to Wendys challenges as well.
Create as many layouts as you like using the criteria for SIC80 and SIC81 to earn points.
How to earn points for my challenge:
Stamp on a die or punched shaped - 2 points.
Create a frame with punching around the border like my sample above - 2 points.
Create a monochromatic background using punches - 2 points.
Use with another medium besides paper - 2 points.
Everything else 1 point
You have until Sunday September 5th 8pm to earn points for this challenge. On September 6th Wendy will post a new challenge and let you know how you can earn points for her challenge. Her challenge will end Sunday Sept 19 at 8pm. I will total up all the points and post the winner on a separate post on Monday!
This should be fun. I counted to see how many punches I've got in my room and I got to 86 so I should be able to come up with something..do you think? lol! I just had some out to make cards for the church last weekend so I probably have a few more lurking somewhere! I'll have to go to my photo albums and pull out some photos to coordinate with some punches! Thanks for hostessing Melisa! I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with and I enjoyed your samples on your blog.
Wow! Terry how do you store them?? I don't have as many as you, but they are so heavy to store. I got DH to build me a punch storage board. It's heavy duty and mounts on the wall. But I've just about run out of space, so DH says once it's full I have to stop buying punches. Yeah, right! teehee.
I have to work tomorrow so I will check back in on this thread late tomorrow afternoon.
Good night,
Melisa
Your challenge looks fun, Melisa! I've never counted my punches, but I have plenty also! I'll have to think about what I want to do for your challenge, but it will definitely be fun!
By the way, your sample page is awesome! Love the western theme!
looks great. Wonderful ideas on ways to use those "86" punches that are hiding in our work spaces. Wow, 86, that's a lot. I have quite a few too, but this number frightens me, so I don't think I'll count mine.

I'm with you, Deb. I don't want to count and substantiate just how strong my paper crafting addiction might be! (Ignorance is bliss!) lol
Okay, I'm going to blame AC Moore, Michael's and JoAnn's too. (even tho I don't have an AC Moore or JoAnn's in my country). Their coupons are what made me do it ;)

Sounds like fun, Melisa! I have lots of punches too...but not as many as Terry! I store mine in an over-the-door shoe bag. Some of the pouches have more than one punch! Great idea on the point system!

Per your question on my upload, Melisa, yes, it's Pop Pop and my older DGD, who is 8 now. She was 4 here. I just added my journaling text to my description, but it doesn't really say who is in the pics because the album it will be going in is already full of pics of DGD (and DH too!)
This challenge is now next on my to do list. I actually brought out a bunch of punches this morning to make a birthday card. I had gone online and googled SU punches for a dragon and came up with a really cute baby dragon done by wunsuponatime. So I'm primed and ready to go this week! Now just to find the pictures that will inspire me!

Loved you layout Wendy!
Thanks Terry. I'm looking forward to seeing yours!!
OK....this is why I do NOT do traditional scrapping anymore. I've had my pictures chosen for 3 days now. They are laid out and I plan to put 3 on each page plus one with 4. They are of my brother's wedding back in 1988 where my daughter was one of the flower girls...pretty pictures. Bridesmaids were all in pink so not a hard color to work with (I guess). I've got some satiny looking pink round chipboard pieces but that is where I'm at and I've been there now for 3 days! Not a clue as to how to proceed from there nor what punches to use to create anything. I might try to use my lace punch to make frames for some of the pics and I thought maybe using some of the flower punches to decorate with. Any other ideas? These are not formal pictures...just candid shots taken at the reception. 3 of the pics are of SIL and Brother riding in the horse and carriage to the reception hall. Can I just say, I REALLY LOVE digi scrapping....sorry Melisa....

Terry, I don't know what punches you have, but maybe the SU word window or a tag punch for journaling, a tab punch or folded word window punch-out with a brad on the side of a photo, butterfly punch, photo corners--just a couple of ideas, maybe something will click! :p

Thanks Wendy...hadn't thought about the butterfly one. Sounds good. I've been going thru the featured scrapper gallery and she's done lots of pages with stamps...quite a bit of inspiration there so I've been getting some ideas. I thought of going through your gallery tonight or tomorrow and soaking some ideas in too.

That's sweet of you to think of doing! I have a lot more traditional paper pages prior to Jan. 2009. I started digi scrapping around then and I seem to have a lot more digi than paper after that! (Sound familiar??)
I kept forgetting about this challenge when loading my pages this last week. I did go back and edit one of them to add the SIC80 key word, now I am linking it here too.
Thank you so much for the challenge
I almost forgot that I can't post pictures on Sundays so I hurried to glue everything down this evening and took a pic outside before I lost the light. Here is my page.
I ended up using 5 of those many punches I own! I just wish I could have figured out how to incorporate ribbon as well. I have 2 more pages of pics from this event to do so maybe on the next ones!
I finally got to scrapbook a page! woo hoo! here is a page I did for the Sketchy Thursdays blog. I used a MS border punch, a Jillie Bean journal sprout, my corner rounder and my favoritest punch of all - my cricut (ok, that might be stretching it).
Ladies thank you so much for all of your participation!! I just went through the gallery and made sure I didn't miss anyone for the drawing! I'm off to do the drawing and will be posting the winner on the Scrapbook Inspiration board under a new thread "The winner is" a little later!
