Default Rolodex colour system

INFO AND FILES HAVE BEEN UPDATED SEE POST #11 AND #12 March 14, 2013

The following is for Stampin' Up! colours

I had to make use of that Card,Telephone & Address bigz die, I cut 2 dies of all my cardstock, one with an inventory label & one without, Thought it might be handy to have a second one for trying different colour combos when making project layers, once I've decided then I pull out my real card stock.

I've had this Rolodex system setup for a good month (I completed it a couple days before the Color renovation was announced) I must say I am really enjoying it, having all my colours current and retired sorted by colour.

The paper chart (2005-2009) you see in the picture has inventory listed in the same order as my Rolodex system,

Default Rolodex system Labels - new system renovation

Here are the new renovation labels for each colour of cardstock using Avery#8167 (1 3/4" x 1/2")

If you notice in the picture on the first thread I have 2 labels on the pink pirouette card stock that is because I had setup the system before they announced all the colour changes coming with the 1010-2011 book.
I left both labels on as I think will be continue storing some of my stuff the old way, when it came by colour family, like the ink spots or refills.

The Rolodex Cardstock System document expalins how I went about this project

Default Rolodex labels- 2005-2009 colours

In case you also want the old style labels Bold Brights, RR, EE, SS

These were made prior to the colour renovation announced in April 2010,
so you may not need these ones.

Default Inventory Labels- some product already marked off

I included Inventory labels in the first post
-one is printed directly on the cardstock
-the other is printed on a clear label, it is Avery #8663 (4' x 2")

Hint if you have a lot of Stampin' Up! product, like I had you may want to check the inventory off before printing it, I had
●Classic Pad ●Refill ●Cardstock 8 x 11
●Classic Spot ●Marker ●Cardstock 12 x 12
●Textured 12 x 12
□ noCraft Pad but had ●Refill ●Craft Spot

For several card stock colours, I had items in common, so printed inventory label with items already marked off
see this sample

hope all this makes sense!

Default Update for COLOURS of Card Stock Labels

I actually have not changed the Clear Inventory Labels, I still use the ones in Post #1. I do still use this system, and make up 2 cards for every new in colour that is released, one with the clear inventory label and the other blank. It makes it so easy to find the right colour when working on a project, and easy to file the card back beside the matching colour helps keep everything in order.
I can see where changes could be made especially since the craft ink is only available in Black & White, and textured cards stock is no longer available, etc. I guess I am just used to having everything in the same order, so have Not updated the clear inventory labels. The document is made in Word so you should be able to easily edit it to suit your needs. I would definitely add the word "Other" on the right hand side after embellishments. If you read the attached document Rolodex Cardstock System (same as in post #2) you will understand how on the Left column items remain in stock, but the Right hand column will vary as items are consumable. If you update the clear inventory labels please feel welcome to post them to this thread as I don't think I will be changing my inventory label since most of my stash is pre 2010, I am just a hobby demo now.

However I have updated the Card Stock Labels for all the colours from 2004 up to 2012-2013 annual catalogue.

If you decide to do this project the (Rolodex) Address die is now retired, so you could just use 1/4 sheet of cardstock and cut in half to 4.25 x 2.75 pieces, and file in some type of a box. You do not need to download all the files previously mentioned in this thread, just the Clear Inventory Labels in Post #1 and the ones attached to this Post # 11

Hope that helps!

Thank you, THANK YOU! I bought a Rolodex, thinking that I would use it to index my stamps, got well into the project (weeks of my life gone...), and decided that I was going to hate it, so I abandoned it. Just yesterday I was wondering what else I could do with this somewhat pricey item, and today I find this thread! Can you say "serendipity"? Thanks again!

Default UPDATED FOR COLOR REFRESH JUNE 2013

:smile:Thanks everyone!

Okay I have finally updated my ROLODEX System if you decide to do this project, you do Not need to download all the files previously mentioned in this thread, just the Clear Inventory Labels in Post #1 being a hobby demo and most of my goods are from 2005-2010 I have left these labels as is, you may want to change them, adding candy dots and coredinations cardstock, etc and removing other items in the list- craft ink etc. If you do update them please feel welcome to attach your revamped labels to this thread.

Here are the other files you will need for this system

Doris, thanks so much for sharing. I really like the Rolodex idea. I have a Spreadsheet for my markers, but like the idea of having all my ribbon and embellies listed by color together. :-) LM

I keep my cardstock current, but having color chips doesn't give you suggestions for color combos. Using an online site is just not convenient or efficient for me whilr I'm creating.

For anyone still looking to do this, check HL for a clearanced rolodex punch by Heidi Swapp for her MemoryDex system... or scout on-line.

EDITING:
Here's a link to the standard cutting die as well as the punch

http://heidiswapp.com/product/memory...-cutting-dies/

http://heidiswapp.com/product/memory...-cutting-dies/

I thought I'd purchased the punch but may have changed my mind. I do recall seeing the punch at HL but not the dies.

Default UPDATED LABELS TO June 2017

UPDATED LABELS TO June 2017
I realize I have not posted here in awhile, here are the colour name labels with the in-colors updated to 2017.

I am still using this Rolodex system for over 8 years, out of all the time I spent organizing this is one system I am constantly using, the other is Evernote (that is a whole other topic but searches on SCS will get you lots of info) Both were worth the time and effort for useful organization.

Remember you do not necessarily need to use a Rolodex and that die, just finding a box the right size to hold cardstock sized 2.75" x 4.25" (1/8 of a sheet or whatever size you choose, maybe 1/4 of a sheet for 4.25 x 5.5) would be faster then die cutting all the cardstock.

The system in this thread works great for cardstock swatches, Enjoy!

Thanks, Doris. I stole the file last night and added some of this missing colors - that was super simple simon to do in your template. I bought an empty Rolodex years ago - I have been converting this weekend! THANK YOU!

I finally did an update to the Clear Labels for Inventory that go on the cards, should have done this a long time ago!
You can edit for your own use, a few items on there may not make sense to you depending on your stock, such as PE which stands for Pearl-ex.

Anyhow here is my updated copy

This is amazing--thanks for the hard work.
Sadly, I can't edit the work--I only have viewing rights for Microsoft Office. I wonder if they can be uploaded to Google Drive and edited with Google Docs. Has anyone done this?

Sorry, I am not sure how to update to google, if someone else does please post here.

I had debated getting rid of the group names like regals, brights, etc , is that what you want to edit?
The latest labels are on post #29 as I was unable to update original post.

If you are doing it Rolodex style I did switch to the rotary file and like it more than the flat one which was getting too full.

keep in mind the project does not have to be Rolodex style, can be just rectangle cards in a box and it would most likely be faster to create.

No, nothing specific--just taking a long-range approach (I got MS Office via my old job, so I suspect eventually I won't even be able to view them, since they took away my editing options once I left that job).
I know that we can upload MS Word documents into Google Drive and open them in Google Docs--I just don't know if it will keep the margins, etc., as created, and wondered if anyone else had done it.
Thanks for your reply--I actually saw one of your posts on a different thread, and it lured me to this one--and I'm glad it did!

Time for a Confession: I found this thread and got SO excited, thinking about how nice it would be to have all my cardstock cataloged and organized. I waited until I found just the right Rolodex and got it on eBay...it's on the way! Yay!

Then it hit me - I have no punch, no die, no tool to use on my new toy to put cardstock on. DOH! Does anyone know of a tool I can use for a Rolodex to make my own sheets? I can't believe I didn't have a plan! I have to find something current or that's on eBay & retired.

There are a lot on eBay. I got a Sixxiz Bigz one years ago--discontinued now, but may be on eBay. Here's one on Amazon that's affordable.

Oh my! looks like you have an option, kind of like that tab.
On the Die I have it's called Card, Telephone & Address it's a clear bigz by Sizzix, it doesn't even say Rolodex in case that helps in your search. Our old spiral punch isn't the right size. Maybe the Buy & Sell on SCS might have some or put in search of

to anyone doing the project you might want to change the labels and remove which collection or family each colour is from, I am just adding the 2018 colours (yup, a little behind) and now some colours have been in 3 different groups, I guess it just depends if knowing the colour family is of benefit to you.

Doing the project does take time, but it is so worth having the colours there to pick out for your project instead of going and pulling out different full sheets of cardstock to see which ex. blue or green looks best.
