Before I get to our challenge for this week, I need to express a few things. First, I have received several e-mails and PMs expressing concern that the recent TLCs have not been what some have expected of this challenge. I want to explain that over the last several months, I have received a few messages with suggestions for challenges. Some of them are definitely workable and either have been done or are on the calendar to be done. Some of the suggestions are for challenges that would require specialty items that most or many of you may not have (I know I don’t!). I try to keep the challenge open to as many as possible. What I would like is for you all to send me LINKS to challenge ideas. I want to make this fun AND accessible to all stampers.
~ One Layer Wonders ~
This has been done before back in ’06, but I thought it would be good to revisit the technique for those of us who really struggle with the concept. The idea is to stamp directly on the card base with NO layers at all on top of that. Anybody who knows me will know that this particular challenge is TOUGH for me. Although, I totally love the cards that are done this way!!
Here is my sample: (As you can see, I am certainly no JulieHRR!)
Thankyou thankyou thankyou. I will have my house full of overseas guests all week and the only way participation in the challenge this week would even be possible for me is if you came up with something like this. I'll put something together when everyone else has gone to bed!

I love the simplicity of this challenge! I haven't stamped in months, literally, months. This is the perfect challenge to get my creative juices flowing again! Will be back with my creation!

hey Holly, thanks so very much for being our Hostess with the mostest!!! I can imagine that it is not as easy as this weeks challenge! It was a timely challenge for me as I've been doing alot of thinking about simplicity.
Off to post my card

First, I want to say I think you're doing an outstanding job as hostess, Holly. Thanks for all you do. Second, off to do a one layer card which I think is hard, but a challenge is a challenge! Have a great day.

I think you do a great job at challenges, because they're workable for both the beginners (myself) and the crafters who have been in it for awhile. I myself find it a very expensive hobby, (without specialty items, LOL!) so thank you for keeping the materials simple!
Holly, this will work perfectly for the teacher gifts I am busy creating like mad (school is out this wend!). Now if I can do it, have a hard time creating such simple cards like this! lol
Great challenge, Holly! I find these cards some of the hardest to do since there is little margin for error. Also I love mats...so this REALLY challenges me. Thanks!
Who doesn't need practice with a one layer card? THANKS, HOLLY! PS...Sometimes it IS hard to do a challenge that is posted with the need for lots of new supplies. Plus, I don't want to "work" too hard in the summer months, right? Keep on going with your TLC ideas, I think they are all great!
One layer cards are a challenge for me. I absolutely LOVE one layer cards but when I make them they seem to not have the special touch to make them pop. I follow Susan's (Simplicity) blog every day and she works magic to her OLC. Sometimes it takes me longer to come up with an idea and make a OLC than it does a card with coloring, layers and embellishments.
Holly - You do a great job at coming up with challenges. Some are more challenging than others for me, but the ones I think are hard, others may find simple. You have a big challenge just trying to challenge a very diverse group of crafters! Making a one layer card is going to be tough for me. I may have made only 2 of them in the 3 years that I've been stamping. I've already posted the latest one, so I can't cheat and use that. (Not that I would cheat, of course ;) ) I'll try to come up with something.
Val
I hope that splicing 2 sheets into one is acceptable! :-) MY CARD

Oh, Holly, I thank you for doing a wonderful job hosting this challenge. I am not a technique junkie and am definitely NOT like my sister who teaches techniques, but I need to keep trying because it pushes my envelope. Sometimes they are hard for me for one reason or another, but I would never criticize a hostess as I know the responsibility is not always easy for you. Thanks for always being there AND for today's easy challenge. I think I can do it. LOL
