LSC259 Inspired by the Presidents 02/12/10
In honor of Presidents Day (February 15) - What??? Okay, I know this is gonna sound kinda funky at first but dont let it put you off. Actually, todays challenge is really EASY and fun as well! (And its not as much a limit on supplies as it is a limit on an idea )
I want you to limit your card to something that can be linked to one of the US Presidents. HUH??? Any of you familiar with the game The Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon? The challenge in that game is to give your opponent ANY actor/actress in Hollywood past or present and they have to come up with a way to link them to the actor Kevin Bacon in seven steps or less.
This challenge is to make a card INSPIRED by one of the US Presidents. Use your imaginations you can really stretch it (and you can use more than seven steps if ya need to!).
Here are a few ideas (and feel free to use ANY of em!)
Cherries/Cherry Tree George Washington Hats/Shoes/Purses/Fashion John F. Kennedy (since Jackie was such a fashion icon there is a connection, see?) Lambs/Sheep Woodrow Wilson (President Wilson had sheep on the White House lawn to save money so he wouldnt have to hire a gardener to keep the grass short!) Music/Musical Instruments Bill Clinton (he plays the saxaphone) Log Cabins/Logs/Wood/Pennies Abraham Lincoln (any of these would work you could even do PANCAKES cause they need syrup think of Log Cabin Syrup bwahahaha! I crack myself up!! Thanks for the idea, Kathy!)
You get the idea? It could be kind of educational, too! Here is a link to the US Presidents (listed down the right-hand side of the page), plus a whole bunch of links to interesting factoids:
Uploading: Remember the keyword is without spaces. Use a comma between keywords with a space after each comma.
If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us stamping!
Need help linking a card? Follow these instructions!
1. Open 2 windows: One window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Got to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.
Youre done!
I love this challenge. It encourages a lot of creativity. The gallery should be full of fun, Wendy. I am seeing this from my hotel room (on a business trip) so I can only comment until I am back at my stamping table Saturday am.
I live near Washington D.C. and although it's covered in snow right now, spring will come and the beautiful flowers and trees planted as a project of Lady Bird Johnson will bring the Nation's Capital to life soon. This card is an ode to spring and the flowers that it will bring.

My goodness, what a fun idea, Wendy. When I read the title I thought HELP, but after reading on, I think it's fab. It would be a grea project to do with kids. Even for me, I can think of several ideas to run with- love the idea of cherry blossom. And teddy bears ...
GREAT challenge...We play that game in the CAR all the time! So, when I did it in one step, Markie and Mark said that I get an extra prize! I choose PEEPS as my prize! LOL
What a super creative and innovative challenge Wendy! Awesome. I sure do hope to play. I can't even keep up with my own playground lately though! This is one of the most excellent challenges I've seen here. Fabulous idea.
Yeah, I managed to come up with something -- Since I grew up in Virginia, presidential trivia is kind of second nature to me. I was inspired by Thomas Jefferson.
What a truly terrific challenge Wendy! This is the first time I've been inspired to participate in an LSC! Here it is. I've never used this old, old Texas stamp before and was so excited to have an excuse. When I first moved to Texas in 1974, everyone kept telling me "bless your heart." It may not be original for Texas, but it sure is used a lot here. I'm also enjoying looking at all the other beautiful and educational cards.

I used limited supplies.
And I truly honestly did start with American presidents, but I snuck in an Irish one too. My link was that JFK was Irish American, and that we have the JFK arboretum over here, dedicated to his memory. Presidents Kennedy and Hyde.
This sounds fun! Just have to check out some details about American presidents - I have to admit, I'm more into the German presidents, I'm etremely proud that I know by heart the names of the last fifteen U.S. presidents in the right order (which is a popular question in German TV shows...). So I'm off for some president research - see you later...

Thanks for a great challenge! I've been wondering what to do for my husband's Valentine, and this challenge + last week's collage challenge both got incorporated into my Presidential Valentine! Thanks for looking!
OK, I've got to admit that I thought this challenge would be a stretch and I'd end up with some kinda weird, unusable card. But it turned out to be wildly fun!!! Here's my result:
