Default Disappointed in Making Memories Slice

My slice worked less than three months, I wrote to Making Memories with zero results. Not even an email saying "too bad". I'm so disappointed in them and am not sure what to do now. I paid a pretty penny (at least in my book) for this machine and have no funds to replace it. What would you do?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

You can always eBay it. I decided to return mine to Michaels because I wasn't as impressed with it as I thought I would be. The cuts don't always go through the cardstock and it was more trouble than it was worth to me. I used the money from it to buy more cricut cartridges.

Wait til the holiday hubub is over and call them on Monday. Don't bother with email. Depending on your trouble, they may give you a ticket# and ask you to send the Slice in for repair. They generally have the machine back to you within 7 to 10 days of you sending it in. They will include goodies for your trouble. I had to send my Slice in for repair and it came back working better than ever. Don't give up on your Slice!!

There is an FAQ Slice thread on SCS. You might want to join us over there. There are lots of Slice owners (including me) and we'd be happy to help you if we can!

I got my MM paper trimmer replaced, but it takes 3-4 weeks if I remember correctly. Here's the form that you will need to fill out. I don't think they will contact you. You just have to wait for it to be shipped.

By the way, I didn't have to fill out any such form to return my Slice and everyone that I know of that has had to return their Slice received their Slice back w/i 7-10 days, not 3-4 weeks.

I finally got through to a customer service person today.......was so worried about the things I was reading about 90 days warranty I didn't want to go into the new year and not have something resolved. After much searching and questions and all sorts of confusion, they finally found my product registration and gave me a trouble ticket number and address. I'm to send my Slice and cord in and they will either replace or repair; depending on what they find. I'll let everyone know how that goes. I was very excited about this product but let down with its short life. Now hopeful for a new year and a new machine!

They allowed me to request replacement blades so you might write that in there if you want those.

Glad you got a good response! Don't forget to take your cartridge out of the Slice before sending it. I had a friend who forgot and sent hers in with the cartridge and wasn't able to get the cartridge back.

I put an address label on my machine to make sure I got mine back and not someone else's when I sent it. And yes, Karen is right. Make sure you don't have a cartridge in it. One of my little booklets disappeared when I was teaching one of my Slice classes. I stuck a little note in there asking them to replace it and they did! I was so happy! They really will take care of you. Be sure to try your machine out right away when it comes back.

Me too, Gale.

I know you can use the Slice unplugged, but unless I have to be away from an outlet, I just use it plugged in. It works so much better on a full charge, and it's easier to just use it plugged in than to keep charging it.

I actually returned the first Slice I had over the summer. I bought one again recently after reading the Slice thread here. I'm so glad I did. My kids & I are having a blast with it. I have other cutting machines, too, but the Slice is great for what it is/does.

Well, a brand new Slice was delivered to my door today along with about 6-7 embellishment packages to cover postage costs. I haven't even opened my new Slice yet but the service was above what I expected and I am happy to say they were very gracious about the whole thing.

The only down side is their website reporting which evidently goes unchecked. So if you have a problem with your Slice, CALL them; email won't get you anywhere!

Hi Leslie!!!!
I was curious as to how your SLICE turned out. I am in the same boat you were in. I sent mine in 4 days ago. I had been working by phone for over 2 weeks with a sweet girl named Ashley. I tried real hard not to take out my frustration on her. I hope I get it back working GREAT!!! I have invested a ton (24 design cards, plus glass mat, plus carrying bag, plus tool kit, plus the design card holder, plus about 10 packs of refill glue and blades) I REALLY believed in this product and now I am so crushed with disappointment. I can't tell my DH because he knew I really wanted the Expression but I "settled" for a less expensive alternative...I dare not make him feel bad if he knew I was not happy. Esp...after such a LARGE investment.

Valerie,
Not Leslie, but I had similar problems with my Slice. It came back, and I have had no more problems with it since. I love this machine! There are some things it doesn't do that I wish it did, but I use it all the time, and am so happy I bought it!

I will say I don't remember whether I e-mailed MM or called them. I frequently do both when I have a problem with something, so I don't know...but I do know that I was VERY happy with their customer service.

I hope everybody is enjoying their Slice as much as I do mine!

My daughter had to call them because her's wouldn't turn on at all. She tried their suggestion which didn't help and called back the next day. They had her return it. The replaced it with a brand new one. It didn't take long at all. They also sent her some embellishments.

My blade at times wouldn't drop down to cut. I emailed them and followed their suggestions. So far it seems to be fixed.

We both have been very happy with their customer service. They responded to my email within 24 hours, and with my daughter calling them, they were right on it with fixing her's.

I am another happy Slice owner..! I sold my Cricut and 36 cartridges and all the other goodies to get the Slice. I love the smaller footprint in my craft room and it is small enough that it is out all the time on my desk.

Keep on Slicin'

blessings.

There was another thread that someone recommended and now I can't find it...BUT I did read all 19 PAGES and was rather encouraged...But now

I was having so many problems with my Slice making Crazy Cuts. I was trying to cut the Gerogia Pacific White C/S from Wal Mart to practice. I had the Slice plugged in. I had new adhesive..I was using the Vintage Finding cart. I Love Butterflies and I was trying to Layer using the shadow. First the blade did not drop...then it would drop and cut but it would slice right through the middle of the finished image. Now it would cut though the C/S. Customer Service said to not move the Slice and recut to cut all the way though. But the 2nd image did not cut on the 1st cut. It was like 2in off. It even sometimes would cut the 2nd image upside down...I spent about $18 to send it back with a ticket.

I got a call today saying that it passed "their" testers test and that they were just going to send it back to me. They said that my battery was really low so they charged it overnight and kept it plugged in and it worked great for them...I NEVER use it unplugged so that should not even be a factor.

I am so frustrated. I have 25 design card plus the dock, plus the bag, plus the tool kit, plus about 10 blade refills, plus about 10 glues, the design card holder, the 12x12 glass mat, the embossing tips, the idea collection box, and extra spatula...You could say that I have a fortune invested and I yet to get a decent cut. I really just want to cry.

Any help would be appreciated,
Valerie

slice machine disappointed

I purchased a slice and all went well for about 5 months. I then sent it back to Making Memories and they sent me a new one. It worked for a while 5 months and i got very upset that it was no longer cutting properly. Because I was unable to scrapbook I did not do anything. When i then became able to start again the new machine. (had gotten it in Feb. 2010 ) still did not work. I called and was told that it was out of warranty. I stated that I just got it and they told me that the warranty was only good for the balance of the first machine. I I was very upset by this. I sent the machine in with the power cord and was told that it was not fixable. But out of the goodness of their heart they sent me another machine.but did not send me a cord. I do not believe it is new. I am now waiting for a power cord to see if it works. I am hoprful I go to crops and wanted to take to it. I would not let them put me off on this machine. It is not cheap and they can not afford the bad reputation on the machine. I will keep you posted if this one works. I too have spent a lot of money on the extras.

Default slice machine

When my slice worked. I loved it. I took it to crops. did a lot of scrapbooking and card making with it. The Web sites are great in helping you set the machine up and working it. I believe that they got a bad batch from China and now they are paying for it with returns. Making Memories is a good company as far as i know and i hope they will do me right with this machine. Would i buy a Cricket if i had the room for it maybe. but i do not have to room for it. I will keep you posted as to how my replacement machine works

I hope you get your Slice sorted. I have concerns about mine too, I did post last week about the little 'tails' mine cuts on the inside of a shape like in an O or the centre of a flower, or at the paper left behind on a solid shape (which isnt so bad) The reply I got on here made me think it is normal, that everyones does this, I was so happy that it was not just my slice that was faulty.

Before this though I had posted my friend some cuts to compair with hers she has the blue slice, I have the pink one. She only got back to me today because her son has been in hospital anyway.. She says her slice does not do this and if it is both my basics card and the think pink card she feels it is my slice which has a fault.

Feel so upset and stressed now that my slice is faulty! I live in UK I can not return to MM USA, the shop may help me out though but it will still cost a LOT to return like probably 10 or more.

Please can anyone let me know is this just a Pink slice thing? or just a problem with my settings? I submitted a ticked the same day I got it and saw these cuts but I found CS were no help what so ever! non of their sugestions helped and the attitude seemed to be its just how it is!!

Many thanks
Yasmin

Question Need info on Slice blades

Has anyone found a substitute blade for the Making Memories Slice machine? I can no longer find original blades and am willing to see if something else will work until I can afford a Cricuit Maker.
