Cuttlebug emboss without emboss center of page

I have seen some cards that were fully embossed with the big shot but there is an oval space in the center of the card that doesn't emboss. Do you know how to do that????

I've never done it, but I have seen several blogs do it different ways. One makes the most sense to me. She takes a wooden picture frame that has an oval or rectangle missing from the center & uses it in place of the B plate onto the cuttlebug. They're really inexpensive at Mike's & JoAnns. I've also seen someone cut the oval out of the embossing folder, but that makes NO sense to me. Why cut it out when you can use a frame & continue using the folder many different ways. I have been searching high and low for some thin wooden frames to use for this technique, and have had no luck. The only thing i found that worked was a little square frame made for kids to color with markers. (It came with markers.)
Every other frame I have seen is either really thick (like about 2 inches thick) or a really big size. I would like to find some thin wooden frames with circle and oval openings that are the right size to work with the folders.
I have looked at Michaels and Walmart, can't remember if I checked Joanns. I don't have a Hobby Lobby. Can't even seem to find much online, unless I want to buy a whole case of them, LOL.

I didn't have any chipboard so I used a cereal box.

I found the thin oval frames at Michaels and they are made by Lara's Crafts. On the package is this web site addy - www.larascrafts.com

I took plumber's gasket (from Lowes or Home Depot) and cut to the size of the folders then cut out of the middle the shapes I wanted came up with 6 diffrent ones so far. Just did a class yesterday with this tech everyone loved it

Couldn't you use a "shaped mat" that you would use to frame a picture to do this? Most of them are not any thicker than the backing of a legal pad, and you could cut them to the desired size. I will have to go home after work and try this.

I have tried some chipboard or the backing of a paperpad or just a piece of any box. Cut at the same size of the embossing folder and cut out the oval, heart, or any shape you like. I even used Spellbinders dies to cut out scalloped shapes. Works perfect.

Recently I saw, and bought, a blank folder to be used with the cuttlebug & the cricut (it comes from ProvoCraft, found at JoAnn's). I comes with this foam stuff that you design & cut with your cricut (although I'm sure anything will work) then adhere into the blank folder. You could make a frame out of it, and put designs around the edges - but it may not be what you're looking for.
On the other hand, this could really be customized for something special! I think the set ran about $10? Not bad with a 40% coupon!

Until I watched a few of the tutorials, the written explanations weren't "clicking" with me. NOW I get it. I kept thinking you had to use the center "doughnut hole" to get that middle part smooth. :confused: Now I see that it is just the opposite.

I'm going to look at Craft Warehouse for a small mat with an oval center. I think the mat board would work well. What do you guys think? The cheap ones are fairly thin, so I think I might get to do this with my new Texture Boutique.

I bought two packs of the Plumbers Gasket Rubber at Home Depot just the other day. The packs I purchased measure 6"x6"x1/16" and there are two gaskets in each pack, and each pack cost $3.99.
