If I remember right (since I haven't bought a card in the store for 5 years LOL!) the Hallmark envelopes for square cards are rectangular, but one end is sealed further down, so the space to put the card into is actually square. You might try putting ds tape on the inside of a rectangular envelope to make the opening square.
For example, you have a 6x6 card and an envelope that is 6-1/4 by 8-1/4 inches. Put ds tape 2 inches in from one end of the envelope and stick it down. Now you have an open envelope that is 6-1/4 inches square and a part that has nothing in it that is sealed off so the card won't move.
