Need ideas for rectangel envelopes for square cards

I love making 5.5" or 6" square cards, but don't make them very often due to postal regulations and extra charges to mail square envelopes.

Is there a way to make an envelope that complies with the postal regulations for a rectangle shape that you can put square cards in without them moving around in a larger envelope and possibly getting damaged?

From the USPS website:
First-Class letter dimensions:
Rectangular

• At least 3-1/2 inches high X 5 inches long X .007 inch thick
• No more than 6-1/8 inches high X 11-1/2 inches long X 1/4 inch thick
• A surcharge applies to certain items including square, rigid, and unusually shaped envelopes weighing 1 ounce or less.
• Length is the dimension parallel to the address.

Maybe you could find some larger envelopes that would fit a 6x6 square card at Hallmark (like from cards they're tossing) that would work.

That's exactly what you can do. If you want, you can put a piece of dbl stick tape inside the envelope at the end. This will close off the excess inches so the card can't slide around.

If I remember right (since I haven't bought a card in the store for 5 years LOL!) the Hallmark envelopes for square cards are rectangular, but one end is sealed further down, so the space to put the card into is actually square. You might try putting ds tape on the inside of a rectangular envelope to make the opening square.
For example, you have a 6x6 card and an envelope that is 6-1/4 by 8-1/4 inches. Put ds tape 2 inches in from one end of the envelope and stick it down. Now you have an open envelope that is 6-1/4 inches square and a part that has nothing in it that is sealed off so the card won't move.

I think it was in Cardmaker magazine I saw a rectangular envelope that had been modified to hold a square card in a pretty way. The artist had punched a shape through the envelope and then adhered a little stamped vellum window pane to fit in the hole. The window thingy served the same function as the double-stick tape in the above posts.
