Default YOUR CREATIONS, IDEAS AND ARTISTRY using SU

Thanks to those who 'get it'; many thanks to those who took the poll. I'm starting this new thread, so people don't say, I would join in, rather they will just join in with their discussion and links about their creations.

It was great to see some folks posting about using their SU products in various ways. I enjoyed the cracked glass directions. That is a lovely technique. Has anyone used it in scrap-booking? Is it safe for albums?

I just got back, so it will take me a while to be able to connect with all of you who posted ideas.

Tomorrow I plan to look up a few samples from my own card collection to photograph and upload. Anyone else who would like to share a link to their cracked glass cards USING SU ?

The SCS gallery for the topic will be full of thousands, I'm sure, using many wonderful things from all companies. Please try to connect to your SU creations in this thread.

GWTW Cracked Glass by GWTW Junkie at Splitcoaststampers

Here is a link to a cracked glass card I made with Blossoms Abound. I am sorry it is slightly out of focus. You can't see all the tiny cracks, just the big ones.

I would love some SUO or SUM samples of the Joseph's Coat technique if anyone has any to share!

I've only used the technique twice, here's a card I made a while ago. It is mostly SU (if not all) but the stamp is retired.

And to put my work where my mouth is- one of the first techniques I learned, at my second time at a SU workshop, was rock-n-roll. I used it for the leaves on this card:
Forums at Splitcoaststampers

This is such a simple technique that I often forget about it. Just the gentlest application of the second colour around the edges of a solid stamp adds an awesom touch. In fact, I think now I will have to go make some more cards using this technique, or incorporate it into some of my scrapbook pages this weekend at the scrap event I'm attending.

I never seem to know when to shut up, VBS.
Just one more before I shut down for the weekend.
Another favourite technique from SU website:
emboss resist: http://www.stampinup.com/ca/enc/4287.asp
and a link to my card(s) using that technique. It was time consuming but very satisfying.

I love emboss resist. It's probably one of the techniques I use most. Here's one I did a long time ago that's one of my favorites --
Blossoms Abound Thank you by MSBetsyZ at Splitcoaststampers

Lyssa, I haven't done Joseph's coat in years, but I'll look in some of my older sample cards.

Elaine, great thread!

Has anyone used the new SHIMMER PAINT yet? I want to get some but not sure if I would really use it.
1 - do you like it?
2 - how do you use it?
3 - are there different techniques/ways to use it?
4 - does it clean off your stamps easy?

Oh, isn't that lovely!!! trying to remember if I still have that set. I know I had it at one point, but I get rid of practically everything when it retires to free up money to invest in new product. I will have to go look.

I am not an expert on this stuff yet but here's my answers-- someone else pipe in, please!

1. yes, quite a lot, although I did not think I would at first. I ordered one anyway to play with and so I would be informed if customers asked.
2-3. I use mine mostly to stamp with and sponge a little on focal points or on edges. I have also stencilled on an album with it using the new Decor Elements stencils. The shimmer is incredible... the gold one is a total fave. It blows you away and you just have to use a teeny, TINY amount.
4. yes, just do it right away. Because it is a paint and not an ink, once it dries its really on there good.

First off, what in the world does VBS mean?

Secondly, the SCS link is broken so I can't see your card...

1 - Yes
2 - easily
3 - yes - I'm sure many will contribute but my favs are below...

LOVE IT LOL - can you tell?!

You can put it on your stamps using a dauber which works well - my current favorite way to use it is to get a little spritzer bottle like they have in the travel sized aisles of the big box stores - fill with rubbing alcohol and add half a teaspoon of shimmer paint to it - give it a good shake to mix it up - and on a card give a couple of spritzes and let dry - it gives a gorgeous sparkly effect that is just fab for holiday cards

You can also emboss and then sponge on the shimmer paint to the raised bits - looks fab too

My favorite color is champagne mist - it seems to lend itself to everything. Just so you know, the shimmer paints come in a small jar - 15ml - at first I was surprised at how small it is - but have no fear - it really does last and last and last - much like embossing powders that seem to last for years

Yes! I saw a video demo-ing how to make and use the spritz and I love it! I wasn't sure if I wanted the champagne or the frost white, but now I'm leaning toward the champagne since it seems to be everyone's fave. I've tried to do the same thing with my tons and tons of Pearl Ex, but it doesn't look the same as the video. I even tried using Radiant Pearls, which turned out okay. I think I'm gonna have to order the champagne, though. I just fell in love with the video and I can't seem to replicate it with anything else.

I am absolutely loving the shimmer paints! My favorite is definitely the Champagne Mist! I have been using it a fair bit with the Rock and Roll technique. Do the Rock n' Roll like you normally would, then using an Aqua Painter apply the Shimmer Paint to the stamped image. The tiny bit of water in the Aqua Painter mixed with the Shimmer Paint pulls a bit of the ink when you brush over it. It creates a beautiful effect.

I have a couple of examples on my blog. The bad thing is that it is extremely hard to capture the shimmer in a photo but hopefully you will get the idea.

I just ordered it...it's not here yet. I saw a great video on it using the ornament stamp in the holiday mini. It was awesome. She stamped the image in blue and just sponged the shimmer paint around the edge with a sponge dauber from SU the kind you put on your finger...it was beautiful. I don't know whose blog I saw that on. I have the platinum coming..wanted it to go with blue...for a blue/silver effect.

Shimmer paint?! I had a feeling this thread would cost me money...LMBO! It seems the popular color is champagne. I'm going to have to ask my demo to show me some.......

I love using the shimmer paint to add a bit of sparkle to my ribbon and vanilla hodgepodge hardware. I sponge it and let it dry. Super easy and very elegant looking. I especially like it sponged onto chocolate chip taffeta ribbon. So pretty.

I'm also planning on sponging it on to my trees. I definitely think it will take them up a notch.

The Champagne Shimmer Paint is stunning. I also love to sponge it on ribbon.

Check out this project on my blog: http://atouchfromtheheart.typepad.co...lenge-dsp.html

I couldn't even capture how much this card shimmers with a photo......the focal image and ribbon just glistens in person.

I'm going to have to check out the shimmery stuff.

I'm having a workshop soon, I want to see the digi stuff in action. I'm a card maker/craft girl at heart... I can never get into doing the scrapbook stuff. I'm wondering how easy the digi stuff is.

What a pretty card! I may have to try some of that. I like how you applied it with the sponge, so you don't have to get it on your stamp. Thanks for sharing!

It is SO stinkin' easy... I have already made more pages in one month in just a couple of sittings, than in the whole past year... make sure your rep knows you want to see it, though. Not every demo has it yet or has had a chance to play.

Check out this project on my blog: http://atouchfromtheheart.typepad.co...lenge-dsp.html

I couldn't even capture how much this card shimmers with a photo......the focal image and ribbon just glistens in person.
Whodda thunk? A brown Christmas card. I like it, though!

She knows. I was talking to her about over the weekend. I had her check to see if I could display the pages on my digital frame.

I love the shimmer paint! My fav is with rubbing alcohol and add half a teaspoon of shimmer paint to it. You really need to see it in person to see how shimmery it is. I can't wait to try it on ribbon!

Wow--I never thought of that! What was the answer? I guess I don't see why not, as long as each page was saved as a JPEG file.

Yep, I too am loving My Digital Studio - it is sooo easy to use and very user friendly - I am amazed by it - I thought I would never get into digital scrapbooking stuff...I am hooked

I usually make 3 calendars for christmas gifts - it takes me ages to design the pages, buy the calendar bases, get the photos printed and to put together each one with papers, embellies etc...times 3 makes a lot of work and usually takes me severals days of work...with MDS I realised the other day that I can design 1 calendar, simply drag & drop the photos in place and send them to print - it's like getting 3 calendars for the work of 1 - I am delighted

That's my favorite way to use it also! It is such a beautiful affect.
