Default SBVC90 - Faux Chalk

When I was told I would be the next Variety Challenge, I panicked.. I sat down with my magazines and thumbed through for some ideas. I came across one that I have done before but only on a card.

So my challenge to you this week is to create a scrapbook page using the Faux Chalk technique. No ink required.

1. you will need a piece of white core paper. For those of you who are not sure about what white core paper is, it is a white paper (center) that has a color on both sides. I found Walmart carries this paper under the name of Best Occasions Textured Cardstock. I believe Bazzil has some too, but not positive.

2. next you will need some chipboard. Place the chipboard (face up) on a cutting mat with a couple of glue dots. I found my cricut cutting mat works great to, since it is already tacky.

3. Then, lay your cardstock ontop of the letters. You can place a glue dot on the back of the cardstock so it does not shift.

4. Gently sand over the letters on your cardstock until you get the look you want.

Here is my sample: Diana Kindergarten

The thumbnail below will show a close up of my letters.

I think starting next week I will give a hint of the upcoming week's challenge, if there are any strange requirements. I'm sorry I didn't do it for this week's.

Remember these do not have to be school pictures. It could be pictures of your kids/grandkids drawying sidewalk chalk art.

Good Morning Wendy. I know you will come up with a wonderful page.

When you mentioned thinkin' cap and I would picture is Winnie the Pooh sitting there saying think think think... Don't ask me why.

I love this technigue, it also works if you gently sand over a stamp! Have to work today but will get something done tomorrow! Thanks for the challenge.

I stopped in at a scrapbook store in Hershey, PA and they had it. There are different colors to choose from. One side is black and the other a soft color in the pack I chose. So I think when I sand it, the soft color will show through instead of white. I can't remember if AC Moore or Michael's has it since they are the only other 2 stores I visit on any type of regular basis.

This is good to now! Other than some chipboard that BrideofPez and Anavon has sent me, I really don't have much! Now stamps...that's a different matter! LOL! Even the woodless type of stamp...can't remember what they are called, would work great cause they would be flatter.

I tried an acrylic stamp under the scrap paper I had and it worked to.

Sand with sandpaper? All over the letter? Or with an emery board? Or maybe one of those white sandpaper like blocks, the white rectangle ones? Not just the edges of the chipboard letter, but all over?

Thanks!

You sand with a small piece of sandpaper folded. Yes all over the letter and make sure you get the edges, but don't go through the paper. You can you an emery board. What ever is comfortable for you.
