Does anyone know how to do Paper Tolling?

Does anyone know how to do paper tolling? I saw this card in the gallery and nearly fell out of my chair: Paper Toled Flowers by Jerri Kay at Splitcoaststampers
I would love to learn this technique. Maybe it could be posted in the resources section if you know how to do it!

Well, I saw that and still don't know what she did. I saw that she painted one and copied it but when I got to "Using a craft knife, I cut the petals and stems from the copies, toled the paper, and adhered the pieces down using thick crafters� glue." I still don't know what that means. It is a beautiful card.

I googled paper tole and went to the first two sites. This one has a great definition on their front page:

"Paper Tole is the art of constructing a 3-dimensional image from a 2-dimensional print... ANY print...

Thanks for this link! Her tutorial makes it simple and not quite as intimidating as the original card that I posted. I guess when you get good at it, you can make it as complicated and intricate as you want!

Wow!

I just jumped over to YouTube to see if they had anything there.

Only came up with one video....they were making a picture and not a card. But the instructions are pretty much the same.

Looks time consuming and complicated.

Go to you tube and put in Paper Tole in the search box.

Puts on my list of things to learn.

You can find really beginner directions on HGTV.com under Carol Duvall show, search paper tole. The results are a little more basic, too, but it's a good start to work up to masterpieces!

I did paper tole years ago and even taught a class at a LSS. I found one of the best sources for the designs is good, sturdy gift wrap. Use one with a lot of repeated designs. I used silicone to attach the layers. Its thick and doesn't flatten like glue and is clear. This was before they made the clear popup glue dots. Boy, did I just age myself?

It took me a while to find any reference to paper tolling on her site but I found the. The actual "Paper Toll" technique is just the layering of the same image in pieces to give it dimension. But to get that porcelain look she used a product called Triple Thick that she purchased at Michael’s. She writes "It’s somewhat tricky to work with, but I like it better than crystal lacquer. It dries with a crystal clear wet look, like nail polish, leaving no bubbles. I let the glaze dry several hours."

After that is the section where she discusses glazing the flowers. It's entitled Paper Toling Combined with Acrylic Painted Wildflowers and has a post date of Aug 17 (my birthday ) 2009. There she says that she used Modge Podge and then Crystal Lacquer after the MP dried, to give it an enameled lustre.
