Default Copics and In-Color 2010

I was thrilled to get a piece of each new in-color at a party yesterday. I came right home and matched up to my Copics. I have an extensive collection of Copics - but not every one - there may be something better. But, all in all, I am thrilled with these matches.

FYI: I use Neenah Classic Crest paper and Memento Black Ink

I have included a link to the cards that I made demonstrating the matches.

Rich Razzleberry, Copic V06This is the only match that I am not totally thrilled with. This is the only Copic color family with the same reddish base - but the next darker one is way too dark.

Have fun!!

In-colors are Stampin Ups new colors each year. They only keep them for one year, and they are usually quite nice. These colors are coming out on July 1st.

thanks! for the info. Here is another set of suggestions I was given by one of my swap group members. I have not done the comparison myself, but it is always interesting to see other's interpretations.
Melon: RV 17 & 19 (these match the PTI Raspberry Fizz colors listed on their website as the two colors are almost a spot on match)
Curry: YR 23 & 24
Durango: E 17 & 19
Razzleberry: RV69
Suede: E 44 & 47
Bermuda: BG 49

Thanks for the info! How do they compare to copics price wise, quality wise, are they alchohol based?

Sorry to be a pest. I have a SU demonstator nearby.

sorry, but do you mean how do SU markers and copics compare? in my oppionion they don't. SU markers are waterbased and a lot cheaper. You can't do the blending like you can with copics. I'm an SU demo and use my SU markers for plenty (mostly for coloring directly on my stamps), but I like to have the copic color matches so I can use them with my non-su stamps. I'm an equal opportunity stamper :-D there is so many threads on this topic, do a search and be prepared to READ!

I did some more playing for Rich Razzleberry. First, I wandered into my local art supply store and played with Prismacolor markers. (Alcohol-based, cheaper than copics, but don't have a brush end - just a thin and thick). No match for Razzleberry, but these others worked:

Melon Mambo, PM7
Soft Suede, PM200
Crushed Curry, PM18
Dusty Durango, PM153
Bermuda Bay, PM37

So, after that disappointment, I came home and played with Copic combinations for Razzleberry and found one that I liked!!

First color with R59, then add V06 on top. See this in my gallery: Copic Combo for Razzleberry by atsamom at Splitcoaststampers.

Now I am happy!!

Default Copics vs. Stampin' Up

First of all, let me say that I am THRILLED to find out that Stampin' Up is including markers for the In-Colors this year!!!

Stampin' Up markers vs. Copics have very different uses.

1. With Stampin' Up markers you can color directly on the stamp - don't do that with Copics.

2. With Stampin' Up markers you can watercolor. Put a little color on one part of the image, then use an aquapainter to pull the color around - it's gorgeous. Doesn't work with Copics.

3. You can color in images on paper with Stampin' Up markers with a couple of drawbacks. You can often see the markers lines. And..if you try to keep coloring over top to get rid of the marker lines eventually the paper with fall apart.

4. Copics avoid the problems of #3. You can color over one spot on the paper all day and the paper doesn't fall apart. In fact, you WANT your color to seep through to the back (fully saturate the paper). This allows you to blend colors for shading and to color until there are no markers lines. It's a very even finish - and very well-blended.

But...if you haven't started with COPICS - be fully aware that they are $$$$$. Absolutely not worth the hassle if your Stampin' Up markers serve your purpose!

Kim,
I just have to say I agree in some ways with the marker comparrison. I love being able to omit using SU markers but I absolutely LOVE the rich coloring effect that the Copics have without overlapping lines.
I also have to say I will take some of the credit for the In-color Markers as I participated recently in the SU Survey and every single opportunity I had to mention the need for matching In-Color Markes I did and did it extensively. So I hope I had some influence on their decision to produce these. Even if I didn't play any part in it I am SO SO Happy they did include them.

Thank you so much for sharing. I know that had to take you quite some time to put together. However, my operating system is not microsoft and can't open the file. Could you change the format to .txt, or .pdf . That would make the file more generic and more people would be able to open it. Sorry to be a pain.

Thank you either way!

I have been out of town for a few days and away from my copics, but as soon as I got back, I wanted to play with these other options.

It's really important to realize that with any Copic list, your paper can make a difference in color. I use Neenah Classic Crest. I did just play with Papertreys paper and found it quite comparable.

Thank you very much to Lisa for her list. I am very excited to have some options other than my short list.

1. Curry - I like all the suggestions. On my paper, I think my Copic match of Y26 is a truer match, but I could definitely see using YR23 and 24 as they are "richer" - just prettier colors.

2. Melon - I can't believe that I am about to say this - but I don't have any luck with the PaperTrey recommended RV17 and 19. (I love EVERYTHING PaperTrey, except for these colors.) I find those two colors to be too "purple" for paperTreys Raspberry or for Stampin Up's melon. I still like RV29 for Melon (FYI - I use RV09 for PaperTrey)

3. Durango, I don't have E17 or E19 so can't tell if I like them. I really think E08 matches well.

4. Razzleberry - I don't have RV69, but am definitely going to order it. I had originally recommended V06 as an almost match, but I really like the combo of coloring R59 first, then V06 - it's almost perfect. (There's a swatch of this in my gallery too - you can see the link earlier in this thread)

5. Suede - E44 or E47, we all like those two.

6. Bermuda - on my paper, BG49 comes up a little too "blue". I like BG15.

Now that I have thoroughly obsessed with color-matching (it's fun, though!!!) - it's time for me to actually create something.

Default RICH RAZZLEBERRY

I just got some new Copics and definitely picked up RV69 which was recommended about halfway through this thread for Rich Razzleberry. I LIKE it.

It picks up more of the red than the purple so you may not want to use it everytime that you use Rich Razzleberry, but it is a nice rich color! (I do have a Copic combo listed a few posts earlier that I like also.)

Default in colors go for two years

If I'm not mistaken, SU in colors, go now for two years. So the 2010 in colors are this years, also. someone, will correct that, if I'm wrong. I'm going to a sellabration make n take this weekend,so will check also. You can go back into these postings and copy and paste the information into a new document and print off, any and all information needed, for your records
in reading the posts, Kim, above states the SU will come up witn new in colors in July, but, I think/hope you can still purchase last years in colors for another year.

The way I understand the InColors will run for 2 years, but we will still get new colors every year. So the colors will overlap. I found the following in the May 2010 Stampin' Success.

Suzi

neW in color strategy
Each year well introduce five new In Colors. All In Colors will have a lifespan of two years instead of one. This year, we have five new In Colors(watch for their debut in the June issue of Stampin Success);next year well keep those five colors and add five new ones. In two years, well retire the five In Colors we introduced this year and replace them with five new In Colors. This
way, youll always have 10 In Colors to choose from
(after this year), but theyll be current for twice the amount of time. Please note: In Colors are not chosen specifically to coordinate with each other,
though some of them will. However, youll find plenty of colors they coordinate with throughout the four core collections.

Making some samples of my own and color matching. I can't believe how different the colors look on different cardstock! I have already done this once before and am finding myself matching colors all over again! LOL!
