Default TLC224 Acetate & Color {6/8/09}

No stamps needed for this background that I'm going to share with you today. WHAT? How can that be? Here is what you WILL need for today's challenge:

8.5" X 11" Acetate
Computer (guess you wouldn't be reading this without one...lol.)
Printer
Markers suitable for application on acetate. I used Copic markers, but sharpies or any other alcohol ink would also work. If you have Lumiere and powdered pearls, these also make a wonderful color medium with the sparklie goodness shining through.
Light cardstock (for mounting your acetate)

Select an online image: I "googled" the internet for an image that I wanted to use...I found a daisy image. Don't worry about the color because you are going to print this in black/white only. If you select a color image, you may have to adjust the settings on your printer so that it will print in black & white as well as telling your printer that you are printing on acetate. This can be done in your printer options window. As an alternative option, if you have a particular stamp that you would want to you, please feel free, but I found that selecting an image from the internet really broadened my options.

Print this picture out onto your acetate.

Flip the acetate onto the wrong side (side not printed), and add your color to the open spaces in your image. This can be done with markers suitable for vellum, paints, perfect pearls, glitter...get imaginative and have fun.

Once your image is colored and dry, attach your acetate onto a lighter color of cardstock, and finish your card or other project as desired.

One note of caution: Because you're pulling photos from the internet, many of which are copyrighted, please do not use these photographs to submit for publication, or make them for sale without the owners permission to do so. Using an image to make one card for your own personal use shouldn't be a problem To avoid this problem all together, you can just use one of your own photograps.

To view my sample of today's technique, CLICK HERE.

To view the entire gallery of projects using this technique, CLICK HERE.

Don't forget to add the keyword of TLC224 (no spaces) when you upload your card so that they can be included in the gallery.

HINT FOR NEXT WEEK: Gather up your acrylic paints and don't forget the toilet paper.

Lynn, it's been a long time since I played with acetate. Can't wait to play later today. Great challenge.

Yes, by all means. Use 'em if you've got 'em.

Just FYI...you might want to heat set your image BEFORE doing anything to it! ask me how I know!!

hold the acetate away from heat gun so you don't warp it

I also found printing in "grey scale" rather than all black does a better print...but maybe that's just MY printer! (HP7210)

Thanks for the tips! I printed mine on a laser jet printer, so no heat setting was required, but if you are using a ink jet I'm sure that it will need to be heat set. sorry I didn't mention that...I guess it slipped my mind.

If you color on the side OPPOSITE of the print, there shouldn't be any smudging.

Now this sounds like fun. Glad I made myself do all the housework before I turned the PC on, though. I only have a pack of 12 Sharpies, so I need to think about colours before I choose the image instead of after.
Thanks, Lynn, this is new to me.

My printer was being terrible about taking the acetate and then is not cooperating with printing in black and white, so I will have to skip the challenge this week. I'm looking forward to seeing others creations.

I WANT TO PLAY!!! I can't! :^(
I know I have transparency and a whole box of it at that!
Problem is I cannot find it! I've searched high and low but
no sign of it! Boo Hoo!
I tried using vellum instead but for some reason my printer
keep on spitting it out. What's up with that?
Anyway, you all have fun! I'll look at everybody's cards!

Most (but not all) acetate has one side that should be printed on...it's got just a little more tooth to it. Another option would be for you to pour embossing powder on the wet ink, and heat emboss the image. It would be dry THEN. I'm determined to get this to work for you...LOL

I need help. I would love to try this (though I don't know if I'll get to it today as I have appointments all day long). But here's the difficulty. I have Microsoft Office Picture Manager software on my computer and I cannot figure out how to print a small picture with this. It (the software) wants to print it as a full page everytime. So even if I crop something, it come up as full page when I go to the print process. Can anyone tell me how to change that. It has made it impossible for me to print anything including digital stamp images and it drives me nuts! Please help if you can. Thanks! You can PM me to keep this off the boards unless there are others how need this info too. Thanks!!!!

Can you change the size of your paper (as far as page setup)? If so just set your paper to 4.25 X 5.5. Then it should work...althought perhaps someone that uses MS Office Picture Manager might have better advice.

I just used regular adhesive, but since my photo was dense, you can't see it from the front. You could always attach with brads, or stragetically hid a glue dot behind one of your image elements.

Acetate and Fuchsia
Wow, that was a bit of a learning curve, what with the computer insisting on printing in colour even when I'd chosen black cartridge only.
And fingerprints on the glossy side...
But I LOVED the technique and will try it again.

I feel your pain...knowing I have acetate SOMEwhere, dunno where AND I always have issues trying to print on vellum!

TOO FUN! I loved this-- fast and easy. I got a marbled look on my apple when I colored it, which I really liked.
