Copic Airbrush question
I am going to ask DH to get me the copic airbrush for my birthday/mother's day.
I'm going to get the set that has the air can and no hoses for the compressor. I'm going to use it, but not enough to justify a compressor.
It comes with D60 air. I have to get that air or can I get the 80 or even the 180 air? I think I'll get a few cans of air when I order it and want them to work.

OH I found my answer.
If I get the 2 set then no, I cannot use any cans except for the D60.
Now I think I sh ould get the A set and then the bigger cans. then if I love it get the compressor. BLAH

Oh, girl, just buck up and get the compressor. Faith had one that she uses that's like $60. I used my first can of air on 2 things and I can't find the air cans anywhere...just gonna get the compressor. LOL

And you can find/google other little compressors for less $$. It doesn't need much power. ;)

LOL Erin! Seriously though, I was frustrated that my can only lasted that long, cause it does take a bit of time to figure the darn thing out, and by that time my can was empty. I asked hubby for a compressor for Mother's Day.  |

Definitively it is better to get the air compressor. Using Air cans can get really expensive on the long run, specially if you do mistakes like I did. I wasted one D80 air can just for been lazy, as I didn't completely released the screw from the air adapter, and my can slowly drained overnight.

Don't forget too, that you can use the compressor for things other than just the airbrush too. Need an airbed filled? Bike tire, etc.? Who knows, maybe the hubby needs the compressor. ;) I know mine wants an air brush.:twisted:

I bought 3 180 cans two years ago and i'm still on the second one. I wouldn't say I airbrush A LOT, but i do it fairly often....

I was hoping to go down that route.... but dear hubby already has an air compressor and it is too strong PSI for the markers! :rolleyes:!
I'm still going to be getting one because the family have nominated me to paint their RC cars and the only way to get a good finish is to air brush them ;) |

If you can't "bite the bullet" for the compressor the D180 cans last a long time (45minutes of airbrush time each) that is quite a while when you consider that we maybe do 30second bursts at a time....I would suggest staying away from the D60 can....seriously not enough air....
You will know it when you "need" a compressor...but the cans are a great way to start! |

Can you get a pressure regulator for the compressor he has? I am using my husbands, and it can go up much higher, but he has a regulator on it, so it goes really high, but we control the pressure to 40 psi. |

I had him buy me fabric instead.
I think I'll get the A kit and some 180 air for myself, then later, like Christmas time, ask for the compressor or buy it myself.
But Brian was overwhelmed by all the air info and said he didn't want to get into that. (I'm like just give me some money! SHEESH) haha So instead he bought me a bunch of fabric I've been wanting and I'm thrilled.

Just wanted to say that I can totally kick myself...about a year ago, Costco had little tiny compressors (even kinda cute, kwim) and they were only about $50. Then they went down to about $35...can you believe I didn't pick one up?! What the heck was I thinking? Of course I have not seen them since and probably never will so I will have to watch this thread to find out where to get one for $60...shhheeeesh!

He is not here right now, but I willl ask him later. Our air compressor, you can adjust it within several ranges, and it has a backup tank, so it is not always on charging. The backup tank gets to a higher pressure than the primary, and we adjust the primary to be at 40 psi. However, when the compressor turns on it is VERY loud.
I do know we had to buy a hose to adapt to the abs system, and then a coupling to convert from the hose for the airbrush system to the hose for the compressor. But I have no idea what those things are called (the dimensions or the brand). We got them at an art store that sells different airbrush systems. |

The Sparmax 100 is not loud at all. I keep mine right below my stampin' table. There's also a very similar version out there for less $$. According to a friend who has that one, it is also very quiet.

Well I tried one out in person and was totally unimpressed.

Ok, so I am just reading this thread and found this very inexpensive air compressor on Costco.com. Here is the link to it. Can someone please tell me if you think this would work with the airbrush system?

No it wont. This is a 12V DC compressor, it only works plugged into your car's cigarette lighter jack. There is no way to regulate the psi of these things, and you can't adapt the Copic ABS to it.
This is only a cheap tool that will help you get out of a freeway until you can get your tire fixed, not a real air compressor. |

I thought the can was the smart way too but I was wrong. I only make 1 or 2 cards when I make some but I went ahead and got the compressor. I'm glad I did! I found mine on e-bay for around $30. It has been well worth the money! I use it to blow out my door mats and lots of other things too! I really have used mine! It's worth it to go ahead and buy the compressor.

OK I have two more questions. Planning for Mother's Day suggestions from my kids :cool:
There is an ABS 1N that has a 180 can of air ( 45 minutes) and the hand grip and adapter .
There is an ABS #3 that only has the hand grip and adapter and it looks like that one is to use with an air compressor.
IF I am reading the descriptions correctly the adaptor in ABS 1N will NOT work with a compressor. It says the adapter is to regulate the 180 can of air. I would need to buy the ABS #3 if I want to use an air compressor
I would like to try canned air before I consider an air compressor. However, the small can of canned air doesn't look very cost effective. If I see I will use it alot even the large can of air will be costly . The air compressor seems like the way to go, but I hate to commit to an air compressor until I am sure I will really use it .
Decisions-- Decisions :confused:
