1st Grade Mothers Day Project??

My son's first grade teacher asked if I had any ideas for what the kids could create in class to give their mothers at their Mothers Day celebration next Friday.

I have a few ideas, but am looking for easy enough to create but also fairly cost effective to purchase the items since I will be buying everything for all 20 kids to produce the items....(and probably redo in my daughters kindergarten 20 child class as well)

I will be helping my daycare kids make something special for their mom and although they are a bit younger this is a really cute idea. You could use this idea to make a wall hanging or create a card. First you trace the child's hand with fingers together. This makes a tulip shape. Next we are tracing their feet in green. Then basically you put it together.....handprint at the top....tulip flower then feet become the leaves after the kids draw a stem. Two together looks great.
My parents love having a special reminder about how big their child's hands and feet were at a certain age. The kids love any craft that uses a tracing of their hands and feet. Always a hit for parents and kids alike.

When our youngest daughter was in the 2nd grade they were all asked to bring in a clean jar of some sort, like a pickle jar. They then decorated the jar with bits of paper, fabric, glitter, etc. This was a Memory Jar and they put in some of their memories. We still have it and add memories to it every now and then. It's one of the best gifts that I have ever recieved.

What about a book mark with the kids school picture ( use the tiny photo). You could have the kids write a message to their Moms. Then laminate them. My daughter's 17 and I still have the one she made me in first grade.

my sons kindgergarten teacher had them do portraits ( one each for Mothers and for fathers day) on canvas. i had them framed and they now hang in our home. I love them and will never take them down

My preschool class are making candle holders. I bought small clay flower pot at a craft store for around .50 and the children are glueing small buttons on the outside of the pots.
We are then adding a votive candle in the pot. These turn out so cute. For the wrapping, the children glued colorful polk-a-dots that I punched out of my scrap cardstock on to small white lunch bags. We top it off with a tag. This is an inexpensive project that is completely open-ended (there is no right or wrong way to do it). Moms love them and children love making them.

I did these with my Son's 1st grade class. The kids did a GREAT job. I stamped one of the inside tags and they wrote love messages to their Mom's on the other 3. They decorated the candles to go inside the boxes as well!
