Retacking the Cricut cutting pads

I was wondering if anyone ever tried to use a repositionable glue to "retack" their cricut cutting pad. I thought I'd ask before I go and mess mine up permanantly. I was considering using the Aileen's Tack it over and over. Any ideas???

I have used that spray glue , and a lady that owns a scrapbook store told me to try the glue you mentioned so good luck it's worth a try and it helps save money I don't have to buy as many mats on e bay.:-D

I use quilting adhesion spray.

I forgot to put it's a 3M photo mount spray adhesive from michaels or Joann's I use it for my chip board album etc use newspaper under it when you spray it or over basket because sometimes you get over spray Good Luck!!

A lot of people have recommended using that Zig 2 way glue pen. I just bought one to try it out myself. They swear by it.

I've used the zig 3 way glue pen and love it. Get a large tip pen, jumbo tip works great! Apply the glue to the whole mat going back and forth in lines. The glue is blue to start with, let it air dry until it turns white and is dry. Then you're mat is ready to use! I did my mat a few months ago and it is still sticky. Just a hint after you re-glue the mat it is VERY sticky so you should use a heavier weight cardstock the first few times. HTH!!

wow great information. I go thru mats like crazy because of the cat hairs around this house. I always put my covers back on the mats right away but hair is always on it.. boooo. lol I swear I have locked myself up in my crafts room and it still gets on it.. I'm going to have to give this a try.. I thought I was buying the cricut company out of their mats I buy so much. lol

Maybe a thin coat of Aleene's Tack it Over and Over would work! It sure does the job on my rubber stamps!

I have gone through at least 3-4 mats since owning my Cricut (have had it for about 3 yrs). I do have extra mats on hand and I don't use thr Cricut enough but this will help from having to buy more mats in the future.

Thanks to other ladies for the other suggestions on what to use on used non-sticky mats.

Sorry if I rock the boat here, but I think the guy on the video is a nut! I am not going to rub my hands all over the mat and lay down and remove paper from it before starting to use it. That makes no sense and he doesn't explain why he is doing that. Why would he want to remove the stickie from the mat?? I pay $16 for a package of stickie mats, I want them stickie! With all he is doing, your paper will not stick for very long. With all that, you mat will have a short working life.

Outlawcat.....To remove cat/dog hair, use a stickie lint roller. Works great. also, run a dryer sheet or damp cloth on the back (non stickie side) of the mat to remove the static. It will help animal hair from attracting to the stickie side (help, but certainly a sure fire cure).

Removing all paper bits and any other debris from the mat will help to preserve it. Mine last about 6 weeks with using it for several hours a day. Also use the spatula to remove the paper and die cut, not fingers/nails.

I'm not rubbing my hands all over the mat either. I keep one mat super sticky for my heavy weight cardstock and one that's not super sticky.

I totally swear by the Zig pen. I tossed my old mat in my paper bin and then thought, why not try it. Most of the ideas never work for me, but this one absolutely did! I was soooo excited! I zigged it about a week ago and have used my Cricut more in the last week than ever and that mat is still going strong.

I've used the zig 2 way chisel tip, the scrappers spray and CTMH's bonding memories all of them work great. No more buying mats. Woot.

Before you resort to glues, wash the mat in soap and water, rinse with water, let dry and the tack reappears. When that no longer seems to help, wash and dry, spray with Stamp-Up stamp cleaner solution, let dry and the tack reappears.

I have been using the repo spray glue for along time. I only spray very lightly on the mat and try not to get the edges that run along with the rollers,so not to get the cricut messy. I have had my cricut for 2 years and have only changed my mats 4 times. Good luck

Okay I have had my cricut for 10 months and am still on the same mat. I discovered that if you wash the mat in warm water with a bit of dishsoap and use nothing but your hand to wash it, rinse it well with clean warm water then let it air dry sticky side up on a clean dish towel it will become sticky again. Try it it really works.

I watched that video and tried it. It works! You are not removing any of the stickiness from the mat. If you look closely at it you can see all these tiny little "dots of stickiness" all over the mat...when you stick a piece of cardstock to it the first time and pull it off you see a bunch of those dots on the back of you cardstock. When you pat your hands all over the mat you are kind of putting a protective layer over it and your cardstock sticks to it without pulling up all those little dots. I tried it and I like the results. I have a bunch of old yucky mats that I am going to try and wash and I bought some repositional 3M spray mount to put on it. Has anyone tried? I'm curious on how it worked.

Just got my JoAnn's mailer here in Western Washington. From May 17-30 they will have all papercrafting machines and supplies at 40% off. Except Cricut machines and cartridges. But they will sell the mats at that price and I won't have to use a coupon. That way I can stock up. That makes it about $6 for a package of 2 including the tax.

Will have to try the suggestions. Bought krylon? spray glue. All it did was make a mess. Thinking the washing first to see if that helps. If not then the 3 way pen. Where is the best place to buy the pen?

I never found a 3-way pen. Found a wide tip 2-way pen at Michael's or JoAnn's.

I'm going to try all of your ideas next time. I did use vellum spray adhesive and it works great, but the first few times it was too sticky. I've had the same three mats for almost three years...my sister had my cricut for awhile and put it to good use.

It's true to use the spatula to remove paper cutting. Be sure to have the Goo Gone to clean the spatula later!!

I think it is really a 2 way glue pen. Martha Stuart makes one, which you can find at Mike's, CTMH sells them...

I saw this done at a scrapbook expo I went to last year and the Cricut rep who was demo-ing the pads also suggested this...I did this to 1 of my mats and I cannot tell you how great it worked. I let my pad dry overnight in an out of the way place and the next day the mat worked great.

I so agree with you! I just did my mat for the first time and holy cow! It was even more sticky than when it was new! Perhaps I over did it with the glue pen, but I am not going to complain!!

I use the Basting spray for quilting...it comes in a can...from Walmart...about $8 a can...but it works...a think coating and let dry...works great... love it.

Hello.....First of all, I don't know if I want to trust that these methods would not over time damage my Expression or Cricut.

But I do have two questions......

Do you wait till the mat is no longer sticky at all where your paper will not stick even with pressing firmly all over??

or

Do you only take it to the point where the mat is beginning to loose it tack before you wash it and then use any of the methods to re-sticky it that are mentioned in this thread?? Just my opinion, but this method would seem wastefull to me. I want to use the sticky mat till it no longer has any sticky left to it. Then give a try to the alternative methods.

I just want to know the opinion of those of you that have ventured into this.

I do use the sticky roll sheets to clean my mat after each time I remove my cardstock from it. I also only use my spatula to remove the cuts. Never use fingers or nails.

I'm really on the fence about these methods and in the meantime still replace my mats when the paper no longer sticks at all.
