What is RAK?
In this case we are talking about the threads in the Swaps/Everything Else forum with the titles of Wish RAK and Recycle RAK. RAK stands for Random Act of Kindness. These RAK threads are a bit different than swaps, they are more like trading, but you aren't usually trading one on one. So we thought it might be a good idea to provide some basic information about RAKing along with some tips for those thinking about joining in.

How Does it Work?
One person will post a list of stamps or other items they are wanting. This list is usually in red so others can find it among the chatter. Another person comes along and grants something off the list and then posts their list. Only the most recent list is current. Each RAK thread has its own rules posted in the 1st post of the thread.

What Can I RAK?
Some threads are for small recycled items, some are for higher priced dream wishes. Read the rules for the thread to find out what is allowed and what isn't.

Granting a Wish
If you would like to grant a wish, you should ask the person wishing if they want what you are granting and get their ok before posting your list unless it is a specific grant. A specific grant would be that the wisher asks for a pack of Blue Bayou paper and you are granting a pack of Blue Bayou paper. For this reason, you should keep a close eye on the thread if your list is up. Don't post a list and then disappear for a few days. That brings the wishing and granting to a stall.

Posting Your List
Your list should be in red and on some threads include the value of the items. If you granted an item with a $20 value, you can wish for an item of that value on the higher end thread. But be sure to include some more down to earth items in your list too.

When posting your list, do it right after you grant. Not 20 minutes later, not tomorrow. They like the threads to keep moving. Have a list of items together before you grant so you will be ready. You can post your list and then edit it to add items, links, and prices in some cases.

The RAK threads require you to add items to your list if it hasn't been granted from within a certain amount of time. Your list should include a variety of items and you will be expected to add items to your list if it sits for awhile with no grants. Try listing some specifics as well as some general items Ex. 1. SU! A Tree for All Seasons 2. Manly stamps any manufacturer.

RAKing Tips:
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are several RAKers who have been at it for awhile and are happy to help new players figure things out. In fact, they love new players because it is a chance to see some new stuff.
  • Once your list has been granted from, you should PM the person that granted with your mailing address. You should mail items out within a week. Please either get delivery confirmation or keep your receipt. If the item does not arrive you will be asked to provide proof that you mailed it.
  • It may be a good idea to keep a running list of what you need to mail and what is owed to you. If you don't get an item within two weeks you should PM the person that owes it to you. If they do not respond to your PM, then contact a moderator with the details.
  • Each thread has a thread momma, who is essentially the same as a swap hostess. They are the person who started the thread and posted the rules. They help to ensure that the rules are followed. The thread momma has a right to ask people who have repeat issues with following the rules to not play on their thread, just as a swap hostess has the right to turn down a swapper who does not complete their swaps.
  • Read the rules for the thread before playing so you know what is expected. It is also a good idea to lurk and get a feel for how it all works before jumping in.

Important Reminders
  • While RAKing is a valuable resource for our members, we do not guarantee or endorse any particular trade. You are entering a trade agreement at your own risk.
  • As with any agreement between two people, please use common sense and good judgment when entering into a trade.
  • Members who do not successfully complete their deals risk suspension of their Splitcoast membership. Any issue in dispute will be carefully examined by the forum moderators. Any decisions made will be based on the information received from all parties involved.
  • Moderators and administrators may delete or edit any posts they feel are not in compliance with the TOS.
