Earlier tonight i saw a Fellows Mars 125 laminator at Walmart - wonderign if anyone has one and what the think of it or if anyone has another brand they think highly of?
this one was $49 and came with 25 12.5x12.5 sheets. They didn't have any other large laminating sheets for sale so not sure where i'd get 'refills'. I'm just looking for an inexpensive laminator that works well and can handle multiple sizes.
What are you wanting to laminate? I'd be tempted to choose a Xyron since it is a cold process (using adhesive) and acid free. Especially if you don't know where you'd get the refills!

I want to make flash cards for my daughter, and laminate some images that i'll cut with my circut - to add to scrapbook layouts or put up on her wall.
i looked around and i can find refills for it at Walmart, Zellers and Costco but just not the ones that are 12.5x12.5. It comes with 50 of these. I think they are intended for scrapbook pages but i doubt I'd laminiate my scrapbook pages rather other larger images etc.
The refills I found vary in size from 8.5x11, 4.5x6.25 and smaller...
and Walmart seems to have the best price at $49. What do the Xyron's go for and the what is the cost of refills?

I have the xyron and the purple cow. The xyron is good unless you want to seal something or cut it out without leaving a rim. I like the purple cow because it is a heat laminating and seals in what I am doing..like I can laminate a whole sheet of paper, then cut out what I want or make book covers etc. I got mine at acmoore 89.99 and it came with a whole bunch of pouches in different sizes. I used my 50% coupon so it came to about 45. It is less at hobby lobby and the refills are 20 12x12 pouches for 12.99....just keep your coupons..I often buy them when I can't find anything else to buy cant let a good coupon go to waste...I laminate anything that will sit still around here now it is alot of fun and sure comes in handy.
Cloe--check out the Xyron laminators through wwww.stickermaker.com -- that's where I've gotten mine for years. Not sure about their shipping to Canada, but they've had very fast shipping (here in the states). The Xyron refills are also available (at least here) at Joann's and Hobby Lobby, and I think at Michaels. HTH

thanks for the info! unfortunately we don't have a Hobby Lobby or a Joann's or any other good craft stores. The only one we have is Michaels. And they are overpriced but the 40% or 50% off coupons help! I'll check on the Xryon - i.e. read up. THANKS!
oh - i forgot to check/ask, so if it's a cold laminator is it basically just 2 sticky sheets that get squeezed together over the paper and thus stick to it? and if it's hot I'm guessing it actaully melts onto the paper? so if I laminated a picture that was 8x10 but then wanted to cut out a piece (say an image of someones head) would both types stay together okay or is one better then the other (i,e cold vs hot)?

Yes, the Xyron is 2 pieces of sticky that are compressed onto your piece to be laminated. If you cut into it later, the lamination will stay right where it was. I'm not sure about the heat laminators.

OKAY everyone i am new here sort of!!! been a member but been to busy! I want to know if the xyron 5 in is worth buying ? and what you have used it on? I have the 2 in and love that for putting words on my cards! not sure if the 5 in would be also something i need

I have had one for several years. I can't say I use it often but with all the die cuts that are too large for the 'X' I have been using my 5. Since most die cuts aren't wider than 6", it is perfect. If the die is too wide for the 'tape', I can usually place it at an angle to fit through the opening.
I don't have a xyron (had one & sold it because I never used it) I have had a heat / cold laminator and always use the heat setting. Love it! i have made a lot of book markers and laminated them, years later they are still the same as when I made them! Also using it for my stamping index!
If you are laminating stuff with layers (like scrapbook pages) the sticky laminating works better than heat laminating. If you want a thicker lamination, go with hot. For flash cards, I would go with hot. Also check office supply stores like Staples and Office Depot.
