I made a calendar from a making Memories kit I bought from Target last year. I put two little cookies in it yesterday. There was enough room in each 'cubbie box' for small treats. Tonight I think its gummy penguins.
Hit the party aisle or party store--I'm just guessing off the top of my head, cuz I don't know what size the tins you used are, but, they might have some fun little trinkety things, no? Like little toy dinosaurs, or mood rings, or those super bouncy balls, or gooey putty kinda stuff ???

At Bed, Bath and Beyond, just as you walk in they have party favors, little version of monkeys in a barrel, linclon logs and tinker toys. They were so stinkin' cute but I don't have anyone to give them to. I think there were 4 to a package.
I posted a similar question because I had no idea what to put in the tins for my Granny & Grandpa since they don't eat candy/chocolate. Someone suggest putting little post-it notes in there. So, I wrote down little thoughts I had on a post-it note and put them in the tins. My grandparents are loving it. It's like a getting a card everyday from me.

What about a little slip of paper telling you to do something together that day. For example: bake cookies, visit a neighbor, go Christmas caroling, play a family game, visit a retirement center...
You get the idea...

I just made one for my granddaughter (who is 3 years old)
I didn't want to fill hers with candy either - so I got her a little Christmas tree of her own and put miniature tree decorations into each tin ~ She now has her own tree and adds an ornament each morning after she checks her 'calendar' to see how many days are left until Christmas...

I really like that idea! I will have to file that one away for next year.
Mine has an assortment, no real theme: stickers, some cool shaped erasers, few pieces of candy and a few little trinkets.

This is a wonderful idea! I'll definitely have to do this next year for my grandkids! Thanks!

I really like this idea too as I would like for DS to have a little tree in his room that can be all his. Filling the advent was the only thing stopping me from doing one too. I might also make a family one where we are to DO something each day.
