Default TLC186 Glitter Surprise

Todays challenge isnt really a technique as much as it is something that you may not have tried yet with your background stamps. For this project you will need:

Cardstock

Glitter matching cardstock, or close to the color of cardstock you will be using lots and lots of glitter (so put out the cat, shoo away the kids and dogs and be prepared to sparkle)
Glue ink pad or SU!s Heat & Stick Powder

A busy background stamp (the more close the images are on your background stamp, the more you will achieve the now-you-see-it-now-you-dont effect)

Im going to include two sets of directions; one for those using the Essential Glue Pad and another for those who may be using Heat & Stick Powder.

If you are using the GLUE PAD:

Ink your background stamp with a glue pad. I used TSUKINEKO-The Essential Glue Pad. Make sure your pad is really juicy. Add more glue re-inker if necessary. Now sprinkle the glitter generously onto your stamped image. Dont be shy; really dump it on there to get good coverage.

Gently tap off the excess and (this is the important part) I set it aside and let it dry and set up well before taking a really soft bristled brush (I used an old cosmetic face powder brush) and brush off all the remaining glitter that isnt held on with the glue or knocked off with the tapping. This will reveal the pattern in background stamp.

If you are using HEAT & STICK POWDER:

Stamp your background image with Versamark, or Craft Ink similar in color to your glitter. Sprinkle on your Heat & Stick powder onto your cardstock, tap off any loose Heat & Stick powder, just like you would if you were using any embossing powder, and then heat lightly to activate the stickiness, according to the directions. At this point you will sprinkle the glitter onto your stamped image. (be generous with the sparkly stuff the excess can be returned to the container).

Tap off the parts of the glitter that doesnt stick and then reheat your project (following the directions for Heat & Stick).

Let this cool for a moment before taking a really soft bristled brush (I used an old cosmetic face powder brush) and brush off all the remaining glitter that isnt held on with the glue or knocked off with the tapping. This will reveal the pattern in background stamp.

I cant wait to see all the fabulous ways you will find to use this technique.

My sample card can been see HERE.

Dont forget to use TLC186 as a keyword when you upload your project.

I'm so glad you included a versamark version! This sounds like fun!

how freaky - I was only thinking today of buying a Essential Glue Pad today, after talking to my cardmaking neighbour! I will have to pop in and borrow it from her to give this a try!

Lynn - great technique to try! I have my backgrounds ready for when I get home from work (and I WILL be glittery at the office today - lol)

I'm using Dazzling Diamonds. I hope someone tries with chunky glitter - I'd love to see how that works!

Hmm - I had one of those Stewarts glue pads and it was so rubbish I threw it out. But I think if I use something like the print pattern BG, I might manage with a Sailor glue pen - I'll try, anyway! Just as well I put off vacuuming up here till tomorrow, LOL.

I just bought a glue pad and it makes this technique so much easier than inking and then using a glue pen to go over your stamp to add glitter. Loving all the bling I can add to my cards. It is soooo much fun! Thanks for sharing! Have a blessed week!

I don't have a lot of background stamps....is it okay to make my own background and glitter it up?

I'll get at it just as soon as I get the kid ready for school ;)

Looks wonderful Lynn!
