Default SBVC38....Velvet Accents...08.15.08

SBVC38...Velvet Accents...8.15.08

Wow, I'm so excited to be hosting this weeks variety challenge! If you've read any of my recent postings, you'll know that I was able to attend a CKC event in Orlando back in June; you'll know this because I keep posting my projects and talking about it!! I try not to be overly obsessive about it, but in truth I learned a lot of great new stuff there! One of my favorite classes was sponsored by sei and it was on velvet paper techniques. The things you can do with velvet paper I would have never IMAGINED until I took the class! So I thought it would be a fun challenge for us this week - to accent your page with velvet (or felt, if you don't happen to have any velvet paper or accents... but you should get some, because it's really beautiful!) I made a sample page, Atlas Moth, and you can see I really used my velvet! The brown strip is velvet paper that I ran through a cuttlebug - I tried to get a close up but you still can't see it great - I'll keep trying! I also border punched it, scallop punched it, QuicKutzed it, and stamped on it! So let's see what you can do with velvet (or felt, if you have to - another great texture to add to your pages!) I can't wait to see what you come up with!

You can find all submissions for this challenge here: SBVC38

SBC's Information Thread: Everything you need to know to participate!

The OPD (One Page Doc, aka: Master Challenge Thread) that includes all challenges on one page for your printing convenience can be found here: OPD

If you have any questions please feel free to contact any one of the SBCT (scrapbook challenge team)via pm or simply post your question in this thread.

Ooohhh, looks interesting. I've never thought to check out velvet paper. I'll have to see if I can find some at Hobby Lobby--or maybe an online store.

Going out of town today until Sunday, but I hope to be able to take your challenge soon. I have felt, but I'd rather try the velvet paper.

Thanks for hosting!

Such a beautiful sample and what a great idea! I think I've only tried velvet ribbon, so I love the challenge to find some velvet paper

pretty sample and fun challenge - wish I had time to play, but company comes tomorrow and I've still got a list of things to get done before then. I am going to have "scrappy withdrawals" by the time they leave!

I've never heard of velvet paper before. I know my LSS doesn't sell any. Does anyone know of any online companies that sell it?

I just found a pretty large selection on createforless.com. There is also some on scrapbook.com. My guess is, most scrapbook online stores will have some if we type in the keyword velvet paper or velvet designer paper. I think I'm going to order a couple of sheets from scrapbook.com, since I'm ready to place an order with them anyway.

Well, I placed my order for a few sheets of velvet paper!! Don't think it will arrive by the weekend, so I probably won't get a chance to do this challenge for a while since I have my niece coming into town for a week on Monday and we'll be running around alot. But who knows, maybe she'll want to make a page or two with me and we can have some scrapping time together. You never know with 16 year olds!

I found some velvet paper at JoAnn's of all places!!! It creates such a cool and elegant look. I only used it for chipboard but will get more braver next time. Thank you for getting me to use something new!!

The sheets I ordered came this week too, but I've had company and haven't had the chance to use any yet. Maybe this weekend... Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I did another page for this challenge a week or so ago, but it was only alphas and I wanted to try something more involved. On these pages I dry embossed the pink velvetwith a Cuttlebug folder, then painted parts of the velvet ith oink acrylic paint. The effect in real life is neat:

Left side: //www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1126935?nocache=1
Two-pager: //www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1126944?cat=3592

Sorry about the photos, which are off a bit in color.

Thanks for looking. This was a neat challenge and introduced me to velvet cardstock. Thanks for the challenge!
