Faux Linen

by Beate Johns

Scratch glossy cardstock with sandpaper to get this amazing look.

Supplies

  • Medium sandpaper

  • Glossy cardstock

  • Sponge or sponge brayer

  • Classic or pigment ink (I used Apricot Appeal Classic Stampin’ Pad® in this sample)

  • Background stamp (optional)

  • Stamps

Step-by-Step

  1. Step 1

If you would like to have a background on your card, stamp it now. I used Bravo Burgundy Classic Stampin’ Pad® with French Script here. Make sure your background is dry before moving on to step two.

  2. Step 2

Take your sandpaper and sand your glossy cardstock making vertical lines. Sand the entire piece of cardstock.

  3. Step 3

Sand your cardstock horizontally, and keep sanding until all the gloss is gone.

  4. Step 4

Apply a light colored ink to your sanded cardstock. You can use a sponge brayer or a simple sponge. I used Apricot Appeal Classic Stampin’ Pad®.

  5. Step 5

Lighten your ink by using your sandpaper again.

  6. Step 6

    Finish your card.

Variations

    Alternative Inks
Use craft or chalk inks to sponge over the sanded cardstock. It will give you a different look.
