Kelly Landers - kmahany
Tarpon Springs, FL
My name is Kelly Mahany Landers and I am known on SCS as kmahany. Ever since I joined SCS I secretly desired to be one of the Dirty Dozen. It seemed so special and such an honor, but I always thought it was something completely out of reach to me. I can honestly say that I NEVER expected an invitation to be one of the Dirty Girls!! This is a dream come true that I still can’t believe is happening. Initially when I was contacted by Jenn Balcer back in August, I thought I was in trouble for something I might have done while posting on the forums. You can imagine my shock and disbelief when I finally got in touch with her that she was personally inviting me to be one of the DD!! I have been holding this information in since then and I am so relieved to finally be able to share this incredible news with everyone! This is really an amazing honor and I thank Jenn and SCS for giving me this opportunity to represent them for the next six months!! I will do my best not to disappoint!!
As a self professed craft addict, I want no part in joining a 12-step program to cure my addiction. I NEED to have a creative outlet on a regular basis. If I don’t get to create something every day, I feel like my day isn’t fully complete!! My craftiness has been passed down to me from my Granny who was an avid seamstress and crafter through my mother who is also a seamstress and has a keen eye for decorating and unique art.
I am a mother of four children (three girls and one boy) and have a husband named Tom who tries very hard to understand this passion (er…I mean obsession) of mine! Two of my children have moved out already and two remain at home! To afford my children and my ever-growing collection of stamps and such, I am a full-time Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I am blessed to see new life come into this world nearly every day. I am also fortunate to be on-call for my job from home, so many days I am able to spend time crafting while waiting for the hospital to call me in.
Call me a challenge junkie because I love all kinds of them! I find they inspire me to venture out of my comfort zone and create things that I wouldn’t have otherwise thought of. One of my favorite techniques in stamping is coloring with Copic Markers. It is a goal of mine to some day become Copics certified. I also enjoy paper piecing, using ribbons and sewing on my cards.
I began card making about five years ago when I decided to make a birthday card for my Aunt Cindy. It cost me $60 to buy all the supplies I needed to get started to make just one card and I can say that that was just the beginning of what now is an ever-growing stock pile of all things stamp and scrap related! I make birthday and special occasion cards for all my family members and close friends and also donate some to a charity organization. I decided last year to take my hobby a step further by applying for some DT positions in the card making industry. I currently design for SheetLoad of Cards, Sweet Sketch Wednesday and Whimsie Doodles. My ultimate dream goal is to one day be published in a stamping or scrapping magazine!
My blog is called My Bucket Overfloweth (www.mybucketoverfloweth.blogspot.com) and I enjoy sharing my creations there for people who like to stop by and visit. I feel very fortunate to have “met” so many talented people through forums, blogging and paper-crafting groups who share in my passion. I love the connection we share and think there is so much we can do to encourage each other as women and inspire each other to be better people. I hope the creations I will be able to share during my tenure with the DD will inspire you in some way. I encourage you to feel free to contact me! I would love to get to “know” each of you too. You can email me, visit my blog or friend me on Facebook! We can never have enough friends with common interests! Thanks again for this wonderful opportunity and may your bucket always be overflowing!
