Julia Stainton - Julia S
London, Ontario
Being asked to be part of the Dirty Dozen design team was a dream I had. Not an immediate dream but one of those hazy, distant dreams. A "wouldn't it be cool if someday, in a few years, I would be good enough to be asked to join" kind of dream. So please, no one pinch me... I do not want to wake up. When Julie sent me a private message asking me to join, I was stunned, excited and very, very nervous. After thinking about it and getting the support of my family, I responded the next day with a very excited "yes!"

My name is Julia Stainton and am known as Julia S here. I was always drawing and making things as a child and took art and photography classes at high school. About 15 years ago, I bought a few stamps in a craft store with a couple ink pads and a jar of embossing powder. I really had no idea what to do with them and they quickly made their way to the back of my craft cupboard. I spent the next few years sewing and smocking for my growing family. Fast forward to two years ago...I was really enjoying scrapbooking our family memories. Noticing the use of stamps in some of my magazines, I went on-line, found Stampin' Up! and requested a demonstrator in my area. My great demo Lori, arrived at my door with a Stampin' Up! catalog and I was hooked. Lori told me about Splitcoaststampers and I loved looking for new ideas on this site. I really started becoming more involved when I permanently borrowed my parents' digital camera and started posting my work. About the same time I discovered the weekly challenges and loved them. The Ways to Use It challenge idea came into my head and I have had so much fun thinking up ideas for it. I credit the weekly challenges with helping me think up new ideas and grow as a stamper. I love to see what everyone comes up with for each challenge and am constantly inspired by their work.

My family is a huge part of my life. I married my wonderful husband at 19 and we have now been married for almost 17 years. We have five beautiful children. Four boys and one girl ages 15, 13, 11, 3 and 1 makes for a very busy household. Juggling their varied needs and schedules is a full-time job and I have been a stay-at-home mom since the first was born. We live in Southwestern Ontario, Canada in a century old farm house that my husband is constantly renovating. We enjoy spending time at the cottage on Lake Huron and sailing our much-loved catamaran. In the rare event I get some free time, I love to read. I have been asked many times how I do it all. My answer is usually...how can I not? I have never been happy if too many days go by without creating something.

I stamp in a corner of my family room. I usually stamp extremely quickly because of time constraints and it frequently looks like a tornado has blown through. A lot of the time I don't have a fixed idea of what I want to create when I start and it is interesting to see what flows out. I have started keeping an idea book for all the things I want to design for the DD gallery and spending a little more time thinking about the design process. I am so excited to be part of the Dirty Dozen team. It really is an honor to be part of such a fabulous team....all incredible stampers and really wonderful people. They have made me feel so welcome and I am enjoying getting to know them better. Splitcoaststampers has been an incredible inspiration for me and I would like to say thank you. I hope as part of the DD team I will inspire you as well.
