Emily Gunnell - WaterPixie
I am so excited to be asked to join the Dirty Dozen Design Team! When I got the PM from Julie, I quickly responded with "Are you kidding me?!" Then after a few PMs back and forth, and response from my DH ("Being on the S3DT sounds like a great opportunity. One you should not pass on."), I told Julie "YES!" and I've been smiling ever since!
My name is Emily Gunnell, WaterPixie here on SCS. My user name is actually a 13+ year-old inside joke with my brother that developed one summer. ;o) I am 31 years old and I'll be eight on February 29, 2008! Man, I age poorly! Don and I were introduced by a mutual friend when she discovered that we were attending the same concert - remember Oingo Boingo? We were both going to their Farewell concert - he was taking his younger sister and I was taking my younger brother. From that a friendship developed and we were married a little over a year later. Don, and I have been married for 10 years and have two boys: Perrin (7) and Owen (5). I love to spend time with my family and get a kick out of the daily comments that come from my boys.
I have always enjoyed crafting. Growing up I learned cross-stitching, crochet, tatting, tole painting, etc. Never really focusing on just one craft, I seemed to find myself exploring for a creative outlet that fit me. Shortly after getting married, my Mom introduced scrapbooking to me and my dear friend Debora (liandrin16). Was I ever hooked! I loved all the papers and fun embellishments! It wasn't until a couple of years later that I came across rubber stamping. Local scrapbook stores had a very small stamp selection and I didn't really see the point (was I ever wrong!). I did buy one stamp and after experimenting, just wasn't that impressed with the whole stamping process. Then about a year later I came across a Stampin' Up! catalog! Once I saw stamps in sets I realized the great potential and value of rubber stamping. My poor scrapbooks have been neglected since I've become so fond of creating cards and other paper crafting projects (sorry Don).
I was a Stampin' Up! Demo for a few years before letting my demo status expire. I realized that for me to really enjoy stamping, I needed to let the business side of it go and explore new avenues for my addiction - I mean hobby. Since then I've had the opportunity to participate on the justjohanna Design Team, which has been a great learning experience for me. From my DT experience and DH encouragement, I've entered many projects for publication. Some make it, some don't. What matters most is that I'm happy in my craft and enjoy sharing what I know with others.
If not for Splitcoast, I would never have met so many wonderful stampers who have had a positive affect on my life. My SCS friends (who live in the computer) are my inspiration! SCS has given me a wonderful group of friends and I hope to give back to the site while I'm a member of the Dirty Dozen Design Team!
